Hi,

About every two or three years the bike throws ignition coil error codes. This time P1352 and P0352 for ignition coil 2.

Sometimes it's more than one ignition coil.

Is this normal or is there something else that could be causing the failures?

Also where did the erase error codes button go on Tune ECU?

Thanks.

Those codes point to a wiring/ ecm issue - have you tried cleaning grime & corrosion from connections (don't think it's the ecm seeing as bike running okay)?

Thanks and I will open it up and try that. The motor does stumble like it's not firing on all cylinders before it throws the code. It just seems unlikely the coils would fail this often.

Just recalled having something like that, happened after washing bike - turned out water got past "coil on plug" seals; into plug wells; vent clogged.

Vent... Body of (Y2K SIII) coils have a small vent hole on top - that should align with coil rubber weather seal hole. Since rode a lot in rain & snow (in addition to washing), also put dielectric grease on coil seals and prob went away...

Put dielectric grease on all connections as you're doing any maintenance till everything's covered to reduce moisture & corrosion. Hi-temp grease on spark plug threads (in addition to keeping plugs from becoming seized) may help create a waterproof seal so moisture doesn't breach firing chamber.

ECM... It's surprisingly rare to see anyone clean grunge from male & female ecm connectors on anything, but it will cause probs, dielectric grease for sure helps.

Test coil... While not as reliable as a full coil test, resistance is spec'd between 0.7 - 0.9 ohms and a good indicator of if replacement needed (they do last a pretty long time though).

Hi and to complete thread.

Followed suggestions for cleaning and protecting connections from moisture.

And upon reflection each time this is happened it was when the bike was left out during some deluge. Unless on a trip it is kept inside a garage.

Most recently it was when the driveway was sealcoated and bike was parked outside (so I could use it during post sealcoating cure period of two days). For those of you that don't live in places that get very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter, sealcoating is a water repellent thing you do every couple of years to minimize moisture ingress into your driveway, and to minimize expanding and contracting due to extreme temperature and humidity changes.

My 955i has been fine since doing the cleaning and protecting suggestions.

But it's November and here in Saratoga Springs NY riding season is about over and will be snow blowing soon. Sigh.

Thanks for the replies and help.
