New member from Chicago

Hey all, new member here from Chicago. I do not own a Triumph (actually a Harley 48), but I am looking into changing that!

Welcome to the forum!

I like the Sportster 48. Haven't ridden one, though. I learned to ride on an XLH883 (1995) and owned a 1200C later. Sportsters are fun!

What are you looking for in a Triumph? Cruiser? Sport Bike? Adventure bike? Let us help you spend your money!

Cheers!

I'm actually thinking about trading in the 48 on a Thruxton. 48 is tons of fun but has a lot of limitations obviously (stock seat, shock, forks are terribly uncomfortable; 90 mile range; single seat). I'm guessing the Thruxton has a lot of the same limitations and it's a lot more underpowered than even the 48 is stock, but in reality it's closer to the bike I want in every way except performance than the 48.

I'm in the process of customizing the 48, already have done $1k worth of performance upgrades, and now staring at $1k worth of comfort upgrades and then $2k worth of Roland Sands parts to cafe out my sporty that I started to think "well maybe making a Thruxton perform like a sporty would be a lot easier and cheaper than making a sporty comfortable and look like a Thruxton. I imagine that the stock seat and shocks on the Thruxton are basic items but cannot be nearly as bad as the 48, which has 11" shocks with 2" of travel and a seat with no cushion at all. But maybe I'm wrong?

I think you are correct in your assumptions. Visit the Twin Talk forum and inquire of the folks in there about the performance of their Thruxtons. Search the threads there for what mods they have done and what performance they are acheiving.

I went for a ride with several other Triumphs last weekend and the two fellows on Bonnevilles were tearing it up! I just might test ride a Thruxton myself.

Cheers!
