Hello, g'day,, ,bom dia et cet..noob

Carlos here... just picked up a 97 Steamer as a 2nd bike for longer weekend rides and for getting my gf to ride with me... ( Zero electric for commuting)...

looking forward to reading about and wrenching on this thing...
since my day to day transport is sorted, I figure if I have maint. issues I can learn along...

Bienvenidos, bonjour, Guten Tag, out of languages.

Che, Carlitos....keep your battery well charged. I have the same engine in my Sprint and my Trident, strong and powerful, you will like it, but the one thing to avoid is trying to start the bike with a low battery. Do a search for "Sprag clutch" and you will find good info from some of the long time experts here. Oh, 65K miles, still runs like a train.

I've been looking around for a Tigger for awhile myself....many unimproved roads around here. Hope you enjoy the bike! Don't let the GF steal it from you.

Oh, how do you like the Zero? I suggested that they put sidebags and solar panels on top of the bags and use them to keep the battery up while the bike is sitting.

prior to purchasing I'd encountered a boatload of info on the sprag clutch...
the biked belonged to 2 of the PO's buddies before him. He claims no issues.
Should a preemptive "repair" be made if there are no symptoms? Also, I encountered some info regarding alternator rattle... I've detected no unsavory noises so far (160 miles?) ..

Work was done on the fuel tank, and I think the main fuel entry is blocked, it doesnt get fuel unless the petcock is pointed to reserve...

And I don't have the owners manual... am looking for that as well as a repair manual, ...from what I have learned, Haynes is the only available... any tips are welcomed...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My bike has 60k plus miles and no problem. The fuel issue sounds like it can be fixed with a tank cleaning and peacock/filter cleaning. At the same time, check which coils aware fitted, check wiring connections to make sure they are clean and snug, check piping and replace any bad tubing, and to fill the back of the fuel selector with epoxy to keep it from eventual breakage. Do check the alternator bolt....mine was at the point of failure when I bought the bike, Kit mentioned in a post about checking it. Easy off, just do not damage the O ring. You can get a factory manual, but lots of folks use the Haynes manual.

Anyone else see anything I have missed?

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the guidance...

I've looked about and haven't found an owner's manual... do I just contact Triumph USA?
