Hi I'm new to the forum
I picked up my new Brooklands Green Thruxton from Dublin Triumph here in Ireland last Saturday. For me it was a very special moment to be back on a Triumph, having sold my old Triumph over 25 years ago in 1988.
The new Thruxton ticks all the boxes, with TORs fitted (including the exhaust popping on throttle down). Good to hear that old Triumph twin sound again.
I previously owned a 1973 T100P (P for Police) which I bought from a great guy called Brendan Duncan here in Dublin in 1980. Brendan ran a small motorcycle shop where he restored and repaired motorbikes, mainly Triumphs.
Brendan had bought a few Triumphs in a Garda Siochana (Irish Police) auction and one of the bikes he produced from the lot was mine. The paint job was fantastic, blue with silver and gold striping.
The log book showed one previous owner, Thomas Joseph Ainsworth who was a Deputy Commissioner of An Garda Siochana. (That used to get me off the hook with members of the force from time to time).
I've been out quite a bit on the Thruxton mainly on country roads and it is everything I expected - and more.
Dublin Triumph are doing a great job supporting the Triumph, Harley and Ducati brands in Ireland. Back in the 1980s there were no Triumph parts or dealers in Ireland. Resourceful Triumph owners in Ireland would source parts in England. Some would visit their relatives in England and return with an extra suitcase full of parts which they managed to sneak past Irish Customs - those were the days before the single market.
The forum is brilliant - a great resource.
