I'm new to the site and to riding. I've been working on a '64 Bonneville off and on since college (20 years) but never gotten it on the road for more than just test rides around the block. Now that I finally want to ride on a regular basis, my father (a rider of Harleys, Triumphs, and Indians for 50+ years) suggests that my learning should be done on a new bike that actually has brakes, lights, signals, and decent handling rather than the death trap that might be the '64. So I plan to buy a new/slightly used Triumph this Fall or Winter.
I've been convinced all along that I want the T100 Black. I've been riding my father's '03 Speedmaster the last couple of weeks, though, and really like it. I've never ridden a stock Bonneville.
My dilemma:
I'm concerned about the Speedmaster's laid back position aggravating my lower back. I imagine the more upright position of the Bonneville would be more comfortable. I'm about 6' 0".
Any suggestions on which bike might be better?
One other question: Would the 17" wheel of the SE make much handling difference for a new rider as opposed to the 19" T100 wheel?
Thanks for any advice you might have.
