1950 Thunderbird

Looking for info. I have located a 1950 thunderbird that is for sale by an older gentleman. The bike is tucked away in a building with another triumph enduro looking bike. It looks original and has been restored. Not mint but in decent condition. He has owned it for 8 years (bought out of hemmings) but I think had a stroke and cant ride anymore. He had one in period which is why he bought it 8 yrs ago. Anyway, I am a vintage sidescreen tr guy (TR2, Tr3A etc), not a bike guy, but would like to add it to my collection only I do not know vintage triumph motorcycle values. Cant seem to find any price guide on line. Also dont know what to look for to verify it is authentic and original. Anyway, wondering if there is a price guide and what to check for on this particular bike (numbers, originality etc. any help appreciated, John

You are looking for correct original parts. matching nos, engine turns over and either original condition or well restored. Also 1950 is early in the production of the 6T so make sure it is a particular year, this can be done from the engine/frame no. All build records are available and you can even get a copy of the original individual build sheet from www.vmcc.net. Parts are generally readily available for a number of specialists. Value depends very much on condition and originality and also where you live. Prices are generally higher in europe. Check out the enduro type bike, if it is a contempary of the Thunderbird, it could be even more desirable.

Based on some internet searching, the enduro looking bike appears to be an early to mid 60's t20m tiger cub or tiger mountain cub

Welcome jowjup! I loved my TR3 back in the day (1970-72) in the summer and late fall. The side curtains let all kinds of moisture and cold in the rest of the year.

Still, I'd love to own one again.
