My first Triumph

Hi all,

I've just put a down payment on my first ever Triumph after wanting one for half a lifetime (or more). I've been lurking on this site for a week or so now just trying to pick up some pre-ownership information.

The bike in question is a Thruxton, it is a 2009 model but is as yet un-registered, I'll not be getting it registered or take ownership until March next year as there is no point with the weather in the UK at the moment. I'm really looking forward to it of course, it is a fantastic thing for me to be buying a British bike.

As with most things I have I will probably be modifying it, starting with exhaust then probably moving on to inlet, so I'll probably be popping up in the EFi forum as well as those didicated to twins as I'm sure I'll need to fettle the mapping.

May I be the first to wish you a warm welcome to this site. Your restraint in waiting until the Spring of next year is heroic lol

Hi Rob and thanks for the reply.
Not heroic exactly, with the weather the way it just now I'm quite glad not to have it yet and at least I don't have to store or insure it until March and then I'll get the new 11 plate which is nice. Having said that if feels like ages since I rode even though it was only back in early November and even longer still to go, as I don't expect the weather to get fit for riding until well into February. It'll go soon enough though and I may start stocking up on add-on parts in the mean time.

Hi Doxiedog, no need for stocking up on the Winter gear I have all that I need - None! I just don't do winter riding, did it when I was younger but just don't see the point any longer, I don't enjoy it and it doesn't make me any better as many people claim. Also we put salt on our roads when there is possiblity of ice and this tends to disolve bikes so I just mothball my bikes and drag them out once the ice, snow & salt have gone. Now if I lived in California that would be a different matter!

Edit - Just realised my details don't make it clear where I am, hopefully corrected now.

Hi Jaffa, I'm sure I will, this is a bit of a departure for me as I usually have sports bikes, main reason for getting this is to ride 2 up with wifey and just cruising althogh I also intend to ride solo and push it a bit, I like the idea of something that is not overpowered/overtyred/overbraked to the extent that you can't push it without risking life, limb and licence! Maybe see you round you're not too far away from me.
