Shinko tires?

Anyone have much experience with thesen on the rear, and if so how is the mileage? Not as concerned with stickiness because i read a ton of reviews that all seemed to think they were great in regards to handling and stickiness. I don't ride in wet so not concerned with that. But i go thru rears at 6k no matter the tire and absolutely do not want anything thats going to get me less mileage due to the fact there is nothing else in life i hate more then removing and replacing the rear wheel ! I have a Tbird but i posted here because the Tbird forum is pretty much dead and R3s have been on the road longer so more owners are likely to have tried shinkos. So the question is, how long did they last you compared to other rears? Also, what model did u have? Looking at the advance model.

Does Shinko even make a tire for the Rocket? The only options I know of are the Metzelers and Avons. I barely get 4.5K miles on a rear tire on my Rocket. I would be thrilled to get 6K!

On my T100 I'v used the Shinko 712 and the 230 Tour Master rear in 130/90-17 will last 8,000 miles. On a Tbird I wouldn't expect one to last that long but worth a try. Good tires IMO.

I'm out. Read a magazine review of them and it was scathing. Actually rather scary. So true or not i'm gonna pass. As to the excedra, i had a set and the rear was the shorted lived of all the tires i have tried on it, about 4k miles. I liked the handling and feel a lot but no way would i buy another when they lasted 33% less than any other I've used. Plus the excedra isn't nearly as budget priced as shinko which was the main reason i was looking at them in the first place. Anyways, best rear tire to date for me has been the avon spirit st, so i just bit the bullet and ordered another one. Being retired and on a very strict budget I canb't afford to ride much anymore so i really didn't want to go back to the st but i guess you just can't win with cheap tires. Seems they are either dangerous or short lived or both.

I just put Avon Cobra Chromes on mine. Have about 2,000 miles on them so far. We'll see how long they last. Read a lot of great things about this tire.

Thats what i have been using on the front for the last 6-8 years. The new version you mentioned, the "chrome" has been on the front of mine for about 3-4 months now. Great great tires those cobras, tho the old version would wear the sides own to totally bald while the center was only 50% gone ! I was swapping out for new ones with 1/2 the tread left in the center which had the tire looking arrowhead shaped. Still great tire tho and i got as much as 13k from them. The new chrome seems to be wearing more normally and seems to handle as well. (which is to say, great)

But the reason i posted this thread asking about shinko is because of cost and ONLY for that reason. If i were to pay the price of the cobra rear i'd just go with the best rear of all time, the spirit st. And in fact i did just 2 days ago. This is my second one and like the first one i had on it about 2 years ago, i took it out for a twisties run and was again blown away. This is the only rear tire i have ever run that truly blew me away. If you don't push your bike at all you won't find it miles better then others. But if you do you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face. I've run 3 different avon rear models and trust me, try one next time and i promise you won't be going back to the cobra on the rear. The FRONT, yes. I tried a st on the front and it's nothing like the st rear. It's ok but the cobra is better up front and lasts 30-50% longer.

Anyways, i didn't WANT a shinko, i only considered one because i'm so damn broke. But i am happier then i can put into words that i passed and bit the bullet for the spirit st. IMO the best rear tire you will find for the Tbird by a fairly wide margin.
