Ok all you lovely knowledgeable triumphy people heres one for you! I apologise in advance for my "greenness":| I have been drawn lately to the pre 95 900 trophies, simply cos I prefer the older model to the full touring type that it morphed into. What is the difference between say a 94 sprint 900 and a 94 trophy 900. I think they are the same engine unit, but thats where my knowledge ends. The trophy of that year is described as more sporting than touring. Im sure some one can clarify things. Thanks

As far as I know, the drive train and chassis are the same. The Trophy just has more bodywork. You Trophy guys feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I have a 900 Sprint but, I've only looked at the early Trophy in a parking lot a few times. ...J.D.

The 1993 Trident Sprint and the 1994 Sprint S are a little bit different from the '95-'97 Sprint 900, but are all pretty close. The big change in the Trophy was at the '95/'96 model year boundary. This site has some good info on the year by year details.

In a nutshell, though? Yeah, it's pretty much the fairings.

As far as the 900 triples go, the Tiger and the classics/cruisers are detuned, the sport and touring bikes are the standard level of tune, and only the Super III is tuned.

Trophy

I have ridden and worked on both, not sure why I think the Trophy is less sporting than the Sprint it just seemed front heavy to me? Maybe the big honking windscreen on the Trophy. Both are great bikes easy to work on and what is not to like about the 885 Triple.

Ah, you guys made my Sprint Exec CRY! As well as my "Trodent". (half Trident, half Trophy). Plastic seems to be the biggest difference. Both are fine bikes, both are plenty fast for me and handle decently with a proper shock and fork rebuild. I had a Trident that could not be titled here in NC and so found a Trophy that had a blown engine w/clean title for a reasonable price, and combined the two. Do rebuild the forks before any riding if the bike has been sitting.. Got mine together and now it is apart again for rebuild. Most of the bits interchanged with no problems. Next task may be to breath on one of the engines. The Exec has done about 80K miles, popping a new chain/sprockets on now for summer riding as the old one got "crunchy" on my last ride. Both use Trophy bags, motors seem identical in performance, and I still love riding them. Just got a Hardly, going to flip it, don't like it as much as everyone said, thou a bit comfier than the Triumphs, the darn thing scares me every time I see a corner. (2012 Fatboy, an estate purchase for cheap). Those bikes are strong runners, I'm good for 500 mi trips, with full baggage and my backpack on the back. I ride solo.

Yes, these are all the same bike, just differences in body work, and sometimes differences with the rise of the handle bars. The '98 Sprint Sport comes with the Daytona's fully adjustable suspension, which none of the other models have. That's a nice thing, if you're into tinkering and fine-tuning. No luggage on the Sport though.
