Watch that speed!

In the course of playing with GPS navigation on my '97 Trophy 1200, I noticed that my speedometer does NOT exhibit the typical Triumph optimism. At an indicated 80 mph, my GPS-measured speed is approximately 77 - 78 mph. In contrast, my Sprint's speedometer reads 7 - 8 mph high at any speed over about 65 mph indicated. I had previously assumed the Trophy was equally optimistic and now feel I have been lucky to avoid a speeding ticket. Just a note of caution to my fellow Trophy riders.

Wow! That is out of spec and sort of not technically road legal!

Cheers,

Kit - Agreed, I was shocked to find that an indicated 80 mph was outside the generally allowed 10 mph over the posted limit (i.e. 65) margin. Although I generally don't ride at that speed continuously (that would be reckless), it does occur briefly when passing. Anyway, my point was that the Trophy speedometer seems to be much closer to accurate than most, at least more recent, Triumph instruments. Even my '04 Ducati manual notes that its speedometer reads 8% high, but its data logger output is accurate.
