no help

I went down to Clive's garage so he could split my engine. Feeling like I wanted to help, he told me to get rid of the remains of the old gasket on the two halves by carefully using a sharp chisel. Two minutes later he told me to wait in the car!

tiger

Well. The tiger!
We were doing very well in the UK 6hrs endurance races, twins/triples.
We heard that Perfomance bikes mag was entering a spondon framed bike they called a SPUMPH. They were using the Mk1 frame, but it had a shortfall. you had to remove the engine to do a lot of service work to it. we had the Mk2 which was better although it was based around a GSXR1100 lump. The Triumph was much heavier throwing the weight distribution out the window. Wheel spin on the power and rear in the air on the brakes.
we decided to show it up by racing a Tiger to beat it.
Basically it was a speedy but with tiger bodywork. or in other ways a tiger with speedy running gear. race engine with 39mm flat slide carbs. 125bhp at the tyre.
Anyway needless to say we won the race. Funny how in the write up for Performance bikes they said how they came in runners up. but forgot to say they were beaten by a tiger.
After. that we kept it as a race bike for a while. Clive would take it out at Brands hatch. Funny seeing lads on CBR600's looking up to see this guy on a tiger, she was a big cat.
Was great fun at track days. Clive would pass guys on R1's When he went by he would sit up as high as possible. I have seen many a sport bike go into the gravel traps when there ego got the better of them.
It was sold a few years ago so don't know where it is now.
It prompted Brian Harris, Then stores manager at Jack Lilley to build his Tiger R

Pics our spondon and the race tiger plus our latest tiger 1050 to carry on the theme. Only finished this week and still without decals. we call it TIGTONA

Great thread. I actually wrote to SPEED a few years ago to see if they had any of the races available. They said no. I did watch them back in the 90's and never thought to record them.

There was a STC bike on Ebay a few years ago that sold for cheap. Still kicking myself.

Please keep the stories and pictures coming. If anyone does have any video, please share

somebody needs to write a book documenting these early days of racing Hinkley Triumphs. It could certainly add more value to the marque.

'96 Speed Triple (Alcon, Sebring, Penske, Mikuni's, Race Tech, D.I.D. 520, Speedway Handlebars & a smile...). Sold/Traded July 2015

In the early days we ddin't document it. We just got on with it!!!
I was there when Clive had his 1st win on a Hinckley st Pembury in 93.
Probably the 1st time a Hinckley Triumph had won a race against modern machines. (We went on to win many more). A truely eye-watering experiance. But as racers you don't look back, you are looking for next years bike to race!!!

Pic is Fran Williamson after winning the Brit proddy race at Donnongton in 98
The late Steve Lilley in the red cap. A GREAT guy and we owe him a lot.

1995 STC time sheets and regs 1

Just found these. The time sheets really show the calibre of the riders. Very high profile names. My bike didn't do that well it seems (No. 3) at Brands Hatch. I must say thank you to Matt Llewellyn - I now have his crank in my bike.

Hope the regs are of interest.
