dphex,
In an earlier post you mentioned you knew of one of these for sale. Do you know if it is still available? I was trying to buy a '95 Speed 3 but may have hit an impass with the dealer on price so I am kicking around the Super III idea. Your friends sounds more like what I would potentially want because it has some miles on it, there's another one in Florida for the same price with only 1700 or so miles on it but I would be reluctant to run the miles up on something like that.

Also, does anybody know how to contact a moderator on the classifieds section. I want to post up a WTB '95-'96 Speed 3 but I don't have the requisite 50 posts. Funny how that works, some dork that bought a Thruxton 6 months ago and asked "what kind of oil should I use..." 50 times can post on there and I can't even though I've owned at least two Hinckley Triumphs for the last 13 years. Sorry for the semi-rant here.

Just as a level-set, the last one on ebay (as mint) with half the miles went for half that price. Just sayin...

I'd not mind if they typically went for more, but only I seem to overpay

Hmmm...

I will let this first-post ad slide, as it's obviously someone whose wife has told him to sell his ride rather than someone actually trying to sell his bike.

Cheers,
-Kit

10k clicks on a 1994,,, I'd say it's more of a "parked" than a ride.

since this thread has now officially been hijacked...

I am VERY intersted in buying one of these bikes, is there a Super III "buyer's guide" somewhere? What I mean by that is what to look for in one and about how much they should cost to obtain. I searched this forum and couldn't really come up with much.

I would assume things too look for are if the original fenders are there and in good condition and it still has the Alcon 6 piston calipers. Are the gauges different and how does one identify them? Is there any way to verify if it still has the Super III (Cosworth) head on it? Anything else?

From what I hear the rest of it is pretty much the standard 300 series stuff like starter clutches, etc.

Thanks guys,
Wally

Prices seem to vary widely and from what I have seen they are a bit less in the US.

I don't know a way of determining whether you have the original cams in or not without removing the cam cover. You could validate the igniter is right with the part number. Frankly I think this is about it for engine differences. I could be wrong, but you can look at the parts books to be sure.

Determining if the sprag is a problem is pretty much a guess unless it is already shot and you can hear it. Validating that the carbon fiber bits are in good shape will save some money as they are generally not available. Other parts as ding-free as you want them, but you can replace most of the other stuff with enough $$.

Depending on what you want (I assume pristine) I have seen them around for anywhere between $US 3500 to an zero mileage example for $10K. I would think most will be closer to the bottom.

Finding one that some prior owner has not fiddled with, personalized (i.e. "improved") may be more of an issue as they can sometimes run worse and look weird, providing you are after a keeper as opposed to a beater.

They are pretty nice running as original, after making sure you have squeaky clean carbs with fresh rubber bits, with the US idle mixture screws uncapped and set out to euro mixture, as in the old T3 faq. That's my opinion anyway.
