Just sold my STR

Just sold my 2014 STR. I still have my Scrambler, so I will hang out in the Twin section. It was the best bike I have ever owned. Thanks for all the support and companionship. I will miss this section of the forum.

I will be buying Africa Twin or BMW GS next. Not sure if I want to buy this late in the season or wait until Spring.

There's a lot riding on how you ride.

Damn, best bike you ever owned and you got rid of it? Guess you have your reasons. I was considering trading my street in for a super duke 1290 but the price tag is very high and the street is also the best bike I've ever owned too.

Essentially, I had to choose between Scrambler and STR. They are different bikes, but more or less fill the same need for me: riding around town and weekend short trips. I want a bigger adv touring bike (Africa Twin) and one had to go. Scrambler is a far inferior bike to STR, but I couldn't bring myself to sell it, so STR became the victim. It made me a better rider and now I can finally say what it feels like to ride a light, fast and one of the best handling bikes out there.

I contacted my local Triumph/KTM/Ducati dealer earlier this year to see how much extra would it cost me to trade STR to Super Duke R; they wanted $12K with trade. I would love to try Super Duke R some day; right now it is too rich for my blood.

So I ended up buying a barely used 2009 CBR1000RR (just 2k miles) Repsol Edition. Repsol CBR has been my dream bike for a very long time. I know... I know... it is a not an adv bike, but I also wanted to try a liter bike and Africa Twin brand new is a little too expensive right now. Perhaps I will keep the CBR for an year or two and then get an adv bike.

First impressions: Holy Cow. I thought Street Triple was fast, but this is in a different league altogether. It feels slightly heavier than STR, but not as crazy heavy as my Scrambler. It looks awesome and I love the Repsol color scheme. Insurance is crazy expensive and riding position is significantly more hunched over than STR.

The shenanigans continue....

Stop by and say hi from time to time! Enjoy the new ride! I love my STR too (though some of the things the Triumph engineers did makes me scratch my head - or bang it into a wall). It does triple duty (errands around town, track, short rides with the girlfriend), and ideally I'd have three bikes for doing each task (small-cc errand-runner, track bike, sport tourer).

Shenanigans indeed! Liter bikes are crazy fast.

Congrats, That's a bike I always appreciated also, enjoy. Would that dealer you speak of be MCC? I buy all my used bikes from them and give them any service work I can't do but I bought my SDR at a far cheaper price than they would consider going from a harley dealer up north.

My neck hurt after riding this one for 30 min for a test ride. Did it take you long to get used to this position?

Yes. MCC. I called in for a used SDR which they told me they just sold, so they gave me price on a new 2015 model. Needless to say, I didn't want SDR enough to trade my fully farkled STR and pay $12K on top of it.

My neck and back are fine and the riding style makes it easier to control the bike, but a lot of my weight is now resting on my arms and I am still trying to adjust to that.
