Just adopted a Sprint GT

Last week I picked up a 2011 GT with 8800 miles that was being re-homed. I paid the re-homing fee and she jumped on the trailer. I took her home and showed her where she will sleep. The other bikes took to her immediately and they got along great. After she settled in I clipped her nails, gave her a bath and a new set of booties for running on the hot asphalt. She loves them! .She is a very fast runner. Smooth and athletic. Quite a difference from the 04 ST.
I am extremely happy to have adopted her into the family.

Thanks Dave. Actually your posts about the GT was one of the factors that pushed me to it. Back in 2011 I test rode one and realized that it would eventually be the replacement for my ST when she dies. Well my ST has just over 90,000 miles and still runs just as good as the day I brought her home. I can never get rid of the ST. She is a fantastic bike. The GT is just more refined in every way. I’ve had a Craigslist alert set up for about 3 years for a GT within 200 miles of me. Occasionally one would pop up, just never “the one”. I really had given up. This one popped up, I immediately put a couple of Stella scooters I had for sale. I got really lucky and sold them in a couple days. I then made a bee line to get this bike.
I am pretty sure this one will end up getting me some speeding tickets. It seriously is so much smoother than my 04 that it is hard not to speed.

I just switched from an '03 ST with 91K to a '11 GT with only 4K too. I found the refinement difference is striking as well. But that could be the difference of suspension that hasn't seen nearly 100 thousand miles.

One thing I do miss is the sound of my '03 ST with the Triumph sport can on it. I never understood why people change out exhausts until now. Of course, I'm way too cheap to do that just for a different note out the back end.

I wish.
I had an '03 in Aston green. Didn't have it long, yet long enough to create an addiction to Triumph triples! I sold it, a MG Breva750 and a CB500X to finance my '15 XRx.
The TBS is pure indulgence...

I can tell all of you Rick has been looking for a GT for a while. We rode one when Joey (Joe's Cycle Shop) demoed the GT in 2011. Seeing the posts from Dave reminded me of my 2002 Daytona 955i and my 2006 Sprint ST. A nice trip down memory lane. Well done Mr. Sine.

The only issue I have noticed with the GT was the Fuel Gauge. I filled it up and it never showed full. I was 2 bars from full. I used the old search feature and saw that it seems to be a common thing. I found one thread which told to remove the sender, use 2000 grit sandpaper, clean the contacts and tighten up the "wipers". Reassembled, filled it up and problem cured.

Huge Thanks to this forum!

Hi BritRider

I have had two fuel senders, the original and another under warranty and my 2011 still does that!
Triumph couldn't fix it.

I thought I'd fixed it when I first loaded Chris Coote's Frankentune (which I still run), this worked for several tank fulls then went back to 8 bars when totally full to the brim.
About the only thing on this bike to me that is a bit annoying.

This is a photo from when the bike was new in 2011 with the weight saving Remus Titanium Hexacone can;

Exhaust sound clips and no remapping?

I need some education. Since I also recently adopted a '11 GT and I wouldn't mind a sound that is more hooligan I have some questions:

1. Can y'all post a sound clip of your GT's exhaust for comparison purposes?
2. I went to Delkevic and Trident's sites and they claim "no remapping" required for their GT-specific cans. How is this possible?
3. I put a lot of trust in the manufacturer's research. There MUST be some sort of trade-off/compromise. I just don't see Triumph giving up a better sounding bike with a lighter muffler for no reason. What gives here?

I Youtube'd Sprint GT exhaust and was able to see a couple vids of factory exhaust versus aftermarket. I also searched Sprint GT exhaust on this site and read some previous posts. There is one reply by Peter (Wolf) from Trident.....

"The lightest weight and highest power come from the Trident. The most important thing to remember with the GT however is how the bike runs - there is no TOR tune for the GT so you need something designed specifically for the bike to give more power whilst retaining the stock tune and smooth running. The low end cans like Delkevic are the same can they sell you for any other bike; so your GT can is also a GSXR1000 can or a 1991 Fireblade can - only the link pipe changes to make it fit. There are only two people who make a specific GT can designed to work perfectly with that bike and that's Trident and Remus."

Having been on this site for many years and not only seeing posts by him, but seeing actual exhaust systems by Trident... I bellied up to the plate and spent some cash. I have no doubt it will be a nice piece of kit.

As far as why the factory puts on what they do. I believe here in the US the EPA mandates decibel level and catalytic convertors in them. Most of the bikes in my garage have had their factory mufflers removed and replaced with "Illegal"... "Not For Road Use" mufflers.
