Question Front wheel question

Good morning fellow triple owners. Got a quick question regarding the front wheel on a 2005 speed triple after new tires ... I always take the tires off and take them over to a local shop to mount and balance. I actually got the irons and rim protectors to do it myself but I got busy and decided to just get it done Saturday so I could install and take her out for a Sunday mountain ride. New Q3+ mounted and back to the garage to get them installed. So here is where the question came up.

IS THE FRONT WHEEL DIRECTIONAL?

The shop mounted both rear and front ... rear is obviously directional and was mounted correctly ... but the front ... well when the tire's directional arrow is pointing forward as it should the valve stem is facing the opposite side of from the rear one. I installed it and rode Sunday about 100 miles to break them in ... and did not feel anything funny about it.

However the rotors have the opposite pattern for the drilled holes, will that wear down the pads faster? also what is the circular aluminum piece on the wheel that sticks out on only one side of the wheel... I looked at the parts schematic but it does not show that part in it?

There IS an arrow on the wheel - on one of the spokes, it is close in behind the rotor area

Should make no difference if it was reversed, as long as the tire is the correct way round.

The thing protruding from axle is after-market slider (for if bike goes down)

Thank you DEcosse ... Ill look for the arrow... which i didnt see what threw me off was the fact that the valve stem is facing the opposite side from the rear one and before both faced the same way. I did ride the bike for about 100 miles to scrub the new tires and did not feel anything out of the ordinary. I still feel like i should take it back to get it mounted correctly ...

as for the slider is not what i am referring to but the silver disk that is between the rotor and the fork leg (not the spacer)... you can see it in the picture ... it used to face the other side before but i couldn't find any info on the part schematics. any idea on what it is ... only one side of the wheel has it .. i believe in earlier models they had the speedometer driven magnet but this model. ANY IDEAS.. maybe its just a weight?

That's a spacer.

There is spacer on both sides of wheel
I assumed he was talked about the 'thing' sticking on the axle on OUTSIDE of the fork leg (per the first pic)

this is the part in question... normally it would face the other side ... reason its not shown on the manual ... but parts schematics for the wheel doesnt show it either.

It looks like it may be this part of the wheel I've pointed to and highlighted in pink in the pic from the shop manual below. If not, and it's not part of the brake disc, I'm stumped. LOL

I would say the ABS disk/dial older (used on ABS equipped bikes).


I'm surprised the hub is completely symmetrical and that that spacers allow the reverse mounting.

exactly why i dared to ask the question since the bike felt normal with the wheel backwards... and the disk does have threaded holes as if something could be attached to it. though i don't think any of these bikes had ABS untill the 2011 generation... perhaps one of the other models ST, Tiger had in that generation, the wheel was used in multiple models.

Regardless I didn't want to have any issues down the road and took the tire to the shop to get it mounted properly.

I looked at my GT. The abs dial attachements tabs are part of the rim cast alloy.
