Battery or Stator issue???

2009 speed triple steel tank.

10am - Bike started just fine. went on an hour ride. Then went to the gym.
12:30pm - bike started no issues. Drove to a nice spot to take a pic of the sexy Speed triple...
1:00pm - Slow crank. Lights and cluster bright. no start.
1:30pm - had road side jump me from his cage ( portable jumper wasnt doing enough)
1:45pm - rode her around for 15 minutes. got home. wouldnt start again....

From there I connected my battery tender jr. for a little bit until it could start again. Then connected to TUNEECU.
Bike not running - battery at 12.9v
Bike running at idle after 10 seconds - battery at 13.2v. then after a little bit up to 14v.
Bike Rev at 4k - battery drops down to 13v. then back to 14v at idle.

With the voltage going up and down, I automatically assumed that everything was alright at this point. Left the battery tender on over night. Drove her to work the next day. Started up just fine in the morning. Once I shut her off at work, wouldnt start again....

any thoughts???

Connect a Volt meter on the Battery at start up and see what the Battery voltage drops to?

Whats the Battery Voltage after charged then it sits with no charger?

Sounds like your Battery is going, sometimes they go quickly other times not...

IMHO

Unfortunately I do not have a meter. My only available tool to see the battery voltage is through tuneECU.

I did remove the battery tender from the bike last evening around 5pm (fully charged). I started her up this morning around 8am no problem. Unfortunately I was not able to check the actual voltage as I was on the way to work.

OEM Yuasa YTX12-BS, cheaper lead-acid or lithium battery?

Location? Helps if we know whether we're talking Autumn/Spring...ambient temperature etc.

oh and to actually answer your question, It does look like a cheap battery. I purchased the bike about a month ago. Previous owner stated it was new as well. Wires look intact and no corrosion

Long shot but does rotating the bars back and forth have any effect when trying to start it?

You got loud pipes, but you ain't sayin' nothing!

Glad you got a new Yuasa. I always believed the 2005-2010 had an underpowered battery from factory so need all the help they can get. Hence earlier and later bikes run a larger YTX14-BS.

Thanks Ferris. I hope this fixes the issue. She has been running so great since I purchased her last month.

The fact that the battery voltage did fluctuate while being connected to tuneecu gives me SOME peace of mind with the stator and RR.
