History
My stepfather-in-law, Brian Baxter, used to race a Velocette Venom in the 60’s, in 1970 he broke it and took it to pieces intending to rebuild/upgrade it.
In 1971, he went touring around Europe for a few months ending up at the Isle of Man TT, met a girl, fell in love, and stayed there on the island. During that time away, his stepfather had a clear-out and threw the Venom frame and forks and a heap of other stuff in the skip. Brian kept what was left – engine, gearbox, fuel and oil tanks, and wheels – under the bench in the garden shed for the next 40 years.
Fast forward to 2010, I bought a basket case Venom as a donor bike and built something akin to what Brian had in the 60’s using a mix of his leftovers and the donor bike. Brian was reunited with the bike at the 2012 Manx Grand Prix and managed two track sessions at Jurby, his first time on a bike for 15 years. Brian passed away in 2016.
