Planning a winter trip

Leaving Boxing Day on our trip to Mazatlan. We'll trailer the bikes to Phoenix, AZ, wife will drive the truck, me on the Speedmaster and my buddy on his Spyder will ride down to Mazatlan. Wife heads home the end of February with the truck leaving us to bach for a couple of months. Plan on doing a bunch of day trips around the area. We leave the end of April, head over to El Centro, CA to meet a couple of buddies and do the El Diablo run the first part of May, then start the long trek home to Alberta. This could be fun!

What, are you out of your freakin mind CanadaJack? You are planning a trip to Mexico on your motorcycle? You will be either kidnapped, killed and no doubt beheaded, or possibly worse things will happen to you.

Well... we finally left Laughlin, NV the morning of Dec. 31, my wife was sick for a few days and couldn't drive the truck. It was a little cool riding through the desert, only around +6 C. Overnighted in Buckeye, AZ, woke up New Years day to frost on the bike seats so we had a little bit of a late start. Weather wasn't much better, cool and windy, by the time we rolled into Nogales it was only +4. This only gets better, the next morning we look out the window to see 4 in. of fresh snow and -5! We're talking to our buddies in northern Alberta and they're saying it's warmer at home! Oh well, book another night in the room, it'll be gone tomorrow, Another late start and off to Guaymas, finally some nice weather! Next day got a great full day in, rode 800 km to Mazatlan and got into the house we rented. Gonna get the camera out and I'll post some photos of some daytrips we're planning on. That's it for now.

Went for a morning ride yesterday, left Mazatlan and headed north on old hwy 15. It's a two lane road, known as the free road as there are no tolls on it. Where there is no traffic you can wind it up and go, there's nice rolling hills and some twisties, then it gets interesting, you'll get behind a bus or an old truck and the traffic starts to pile up. All of a sudden the game of Chinese checkers starts, people passing on hills, corners, trying to pass rows of 6 vehicles, etc. If nothing else it keeps your riding skills sharp. Not much to take pics of as there is not much greenery this time of year. After my wife leaves next month we're gonna head up to Durango, lots of great scenery up there so I'll be posting pics. You guys up north stay warm!

Decided to go on a roadtrip south to Puerto Vallarta to visit a buddy down there. Left Mazatlan early Monday morning on Hwy 15 toll road, it's a good highway, 4 lanes for a while then down to 2 then back to 4. Just north of Tepic turned west for the town of San Blas. This road is a narrow, twisty and sometimes very rough ride! Rolled into town around noon so we stopped for lunch at one of the many beachfront palapa restaurants. We had a couple of sodas and Rob ordered the seafood soup. Well.. this bowl arrives with half the ocean in it, a baby lobster, half a crab, half a dozen shrimp, octopus, fish and a pile of veggies and broth! The beach there goes for miles with nobody on it. Back on the bikes heading for Rincon de Guayabitos , a nice little town about 40 km north of Vallarta. Next day rode to Vallarta to see our buddy, had a few pops with him and went back to Rincon for the night. One afternoon in Vallarta is enough for me, too big and busy! Next morning got up and rode back to Mazatlan, a leisurely cruise through all the small towns on the way back.

I loved Puerto Vallarta... Very cool town and not that many tourists surprisingly. At least not when I was there. Also... nice bike.

Thank you sir. I guess I just go back to the old days when there was hardly anyone down in Old Town, now it's full of big new buildings. The bike had a birthday down here, rolled over 100,000 kms. It's probably the best motorcycle I've owned in the 40 some years I've been riding.
