Hey all my 05 rckt is making a terrible grinding noise coming from the left side of the engine, it only happens when I take off and start to accelerate. I'll let off the throttle when I hear it, it goes away immediately and then I can continue on through the gears up to cruising speed with no noise. im thinking its the torsion dampener bearing... any thoughts.

I wish I had some solid insight for you. I am a bit of a novice myself mechanically. I do know a friend had to have that bearing replaced on his '05. Seemed like a big job, but I have had the front cover off of mine to check the detent spring and replace my clutch. Not insurmountable. The technical manual is pretty good.

What I do know is that you should get to it quickly. A bearing failure could cause more damage and cost more money if allowed to get worse.

That year until approx 2007 builds had a problem with the trans, and Triumph would fix it at no cost to the owner long after the warranty ran out. My '07 was one. It was a recognised failure but there was not a recall just repairs under warranty if it failed and I would think it still app;ies

I managed to change my torsional damper in my 05 by lowering the engine at the rear.It is still a lot of work, removing rear end, radiator etc. I loosened the front top mounting bolt and used it to pivot the motor down. There is just enough room to remove the cover that holds the damper in place. Good luck!

Thx Jake, so I take it you removed everything as per the manual instructions but didn't have to lift the frame off the motor. My parts should be here soon so Ill be starting on that project. Did you find the front bearing was in backwards, Ive read on some forums that it was installed backwards from the factory?

Hi, yes I followed the factory instructions, however the header can be left in place, just remove the mufflers. Also remove the front fender for clearance if you are lowering the motor at the rear. My bearing was reversed but I caught the problem before it fell apart. You will need access to a press to assemble the torsion assembly. Once again good luck.

thx for the feedback Jake, while ive ordered the parts to do the job as written in the manual, I was wondering why the throttle bodies and oil tank would have to come off did you remove those or leave them in place, was it easier to take the mufflers off rather than the headers?

thx Jake, in looking at the job I don't see why I would need to take the throttlebodies and oil tank off,(according to the manual that says to remove them) It looks like I can just disconnect the cables on the TB's and leave them in place. Did you have to remove them?

Well just got the shaft out and it is the bearing on the torsion dampener shaft. I had to take the frame off the engine as I couldn’t get the shaft out by just lowering the back end as jake did, the cover plate has a retainer on the rear bearing that doesn’t allow the cover to come off the bearing so I didn’t have the room to pull the shaft out without removing the engine.
