Agreed. Shelf life of motor oil is substantial. Even if the seal is broken, but the cap is secured you should be OK to use it for a couple of years....unlike brake fluid!!
Once the oil is in the engine it can be a different story. As part of my job I often had the assignment of caring for large diesel powered generators and fire pumps. Standard practice was to run these engines once a month. This circulated all the fluids and ensured they would start when called on. But the prime reason was to bring the oil up to operating temperature long enough to evaporate off any collected moisture. Usually we would run them 1/2 hour or so.These units often had oil & or coolant heaters as well as a float charger for the batteries to ensure quick and uneventful startups. ...J.D.
