Hi guys. New owner of ‘99 TBS. I am trying to identify the source of leakage in the attached photo. It can either come from the red or green marked parts in the photo. Smell wise, it seems to be gasoline, and this makes me guess that it comes from the carburetor. How could I identify what these actually are? I am having trouble finding an exploded parts view for my bike.
I wouldn't try it without removing them. Not that bad a job. Pull them out the right side before disconnecting the throttle cable. Get a number 2 JIS screw driver for the bowl screws. Do not try it with a Philips screw driver!
The drain screw is a needle and seat affair; no seal or o-ring. They have to be quite tight to seal, but if you over tighten it that will also cause it to leak.
The brown staining around the parting surface of the bowl is an indication the bowl gasket is leaking.
