This is not the Meriden version, they made 125 good looking UK spec. models and 125 US spec models with some strange styling cues (read; pig ugly) — Triumph America were so impressed with the Meriden US spec. offering , that they made their own. There were only 50 built.
Handsome in black, with twin discs, marzocchi shocks, bing carbs and UK bars. It reminds me of a 4 valve TSS.
That sissy bar is pretty hideous though.
This one looks pretty much all there, but in RAF condition-it even still has the strange 85mph speedo.

Regards
Peg.

£3,900

Reasonable I guess given the silly money people pay for run of the mill bikes but that's going to need a LOT of work

Hi Dave,
I was guessing that this would make at least £4,500 it has gone cheaper than I imagined.

I was quite drawn to this bike, I really liked that when Meriden presented Triumph America with a US model that was very mediocre when presented a premium model, while the UK version was really quite decent, they had the gravitas to say FU we deserve something decent also, and made their own version.
These machines are so rare, at birth 4 times rarer than the Sonny Routt barrelled T120RT 750ís of the early 70ís, perhaps the backstory is not so interesting, but these USA Royals were always incredibly rare. 1980ís Triumphs were seriously unloved, so I wonder how many actually survive.
The last part is, that this has been repatriated to the UK, so it is likely to be the only one in the UK.

This bike was definitely on my radar, I spent a long time costing how much time and money it would take to bring her back from the dead, £4500 was the closest estimate I came to.
With a garage already looking more like a hospital for sick Triumphs rather than a collection , I decided not to bid.
I had to deliberately not watch the end of the auction, if I had seen £3,900 at the end, I would not have been able to resist.

Hopefully the bike has been bought by someone who will love and restore her, with patience and passion.
Perhaps they will pop up on the forum at some point.

My biggest fear is that because it was so cheap, the notorious e-bay T140 breaker from Burntwood might have won the auction.(He once even broke up a perfectly good full fairing T140 executive).

I would love to see this Royal in a classic bike feature in a couple of years, we wait and watch.

Regards
Peg.
