Preferred motor oil

Pardon me if this topic has already been beaten to death, I tried the search but it seemed to deadhead.

Motor oils have advanced considerably since my T140 Bonneville was born at Meriden Dec 1972. Originally, I used Castrol GTX 20W-50, but that particular product has evolved into something else I believe. Here in the states many older motor cycles seem to do well with various "V-twin" formulations, designed for air-cooled engines that share oil with the clutch/tranny.

Castrol makes one available from a local auto parts store for 11 USD per quart, see pic below. What do you think, is this a good choice? thx - CW

Hello,

Be careful what you read on the forums as everyone is an "expert". If your mechanic is a reputable guy who works on a lot of bikes, chances are he probably knows what he is doing. For me, I run VR1. Heck, I have even have run Castrol conventional oil in my 70' with no issues. Just my 2 cents!

Ive done a bit more looking and interestingly there is literally no V-Twin style oil for sale in europe. The Ural dealer imports mineral Bell ray V-twin, that's it.

I wonder if there are just too few "v-twins" but I doubt that as I see loads; Or if it more marketing question.

I did however discover this interesting recommendation from Motul regarding switching to synthetics, and also interesting that they only recommend their oil for later H-D's. I wonder what changed:
