What title says,Im looking for a neck bearing conversion for a 65 t100 frame. All i can find is 67 and up. Does anybody know where i can what Im looking for?
By "neck bearing conversion", I'm guessing you mean the weird and often troublesome practice of changing the steering bearings in the frame? If so, the reason you're only finding them for "67 and up" (T100?) is what you're looking at allegedly fit 'dry frame' 650's, and the C-range (unit 350 and 500) didn't use the same bearings 'til '67-on; before, the frame had smaller bearing races and balls. Reason is much of the C-range, including the frame and yokes, was developed from the Cub's.
Afaict, there isn't anything wrong with either size of ball-bearing, it's just a bit tedious sticking loose balls on to one race or the other with grease. However, given either type of bearing has to be greased ...?
Thanks for your replys. Yes I would like to get ride of the loose balls as they are a pain. Also I would like the option to fit a different front end if possible.
On my '67 framed Daytona I couldn't find any stock sized ball races to fit so I made up a pair of bronze sleeves for std off-the-shelf ball races to suit the frame and the Norton stem (I could have used steel but just has some bronze bar handy)
Are you sure you couldn’t get the correct o.d and I.d bearing so you wouldn’t have to make the spacers ? Or was there another reason for doing it this way ?
There is supposed to be a list somewhere (never seen it) issued by Meriden that lists the common parts between Cubs and the C range.
It is supposed to be called something like "triumph article 673"
Modern sport bikes have gone back to caged ball bearings rather than rollers. Since race bikes use ball bearings, it might be fashion but the ball bearings are supposed to give better steering feel....
My 2000 748/853 Duc still has it's original steering bearings and they are just ball races, I've fitted tapered rollers to the SR's but still prefer the feel of the ball races I fitted to the Daytona.
I think sometimes it just pays to keep things simple.
