Here’s the issue.I am putting something together that "may" once have run...I have replaced just about everything on the left side of the engine...because it was either busted, missing or just wrong...
1) I have the primary drive gear installed and the spacer installed on the face of the gear.
When I slide the rotor so it sits against the spacer…1/4 or more of the rotor actually rubs against the chain.
But this is the spacer! It’s the right “height” and yet if it push the rotor against it and slide it onto the shaft so that the key will fit it definitely looks like it will interfere with the primary chain. Also the woodruff key to hold the rotor in place is ˝ the length of the slot in the rotor. Is this normal?
Photo 1 shows the spacer in place on the gear shaft.
Photo 2 shows the rotor pushed up against the spacer and you can see how it will interfere with the chain.
2) When I test fit the stator on the three studs ..that stator itself doesn’t seem to “seat” properly against any shoulders on the stud. In fact if I push it into place the stator interferes with the primary chain…and it still doesn’t “seat” against anything.
Photo 3 shows the stator just “hanging on the studs” and pressed up against the primary chain.
Photo 4 shows the stator pressed up against the chain …and the third stud is not even able to clear the “body” of the stator.
My belief is that if I screw everything back together the chain will quickly grind its way through the stator if I push the stator up against the chain as a stop. OR if I just align the stator so it clears the chain the stator is simply “floating” on the studs and will move anyway. Finally unless I have the stator and rotor exactly aligned it won’t function properly. i.e…the face of the rotor has to be in line with the face of the stator.
So…dumb questions. What am I doing wrong?
1) Do I have the wrong length of studs in the case? (This is what they came with)
2) Are the studs at the wrong height and they need to be unscrewed so that the stator sits on the “shoulder” of the stud?
3) What is going on with the rotor? Is it actually just held in place by the magnetic field of the stator and the spacer is not something that it needs to be set against?

I will order the duplex chain and gear today.
The primary drive AND the clutch need to be duplex along with the chain
The triplex clutch basket basket works just fine as a replacement for the duplex basket.
The outer row of teeth are unused, and the duplex chain runs on the inner 2 rows of teeth. Everything else on the basket fits the same.
