Amal 930 float height

I have been on a rant in a previous thread about starting issues with my "rebuilt" carbs.
Today I took them apart again and verified all the passages were clear, but when I checked the "adjusted" float height it was only 0.030" from the lip of the bowl. I'm sure I read somewhere it should be 0.080"? Could this cause starting problems though? If anything I would have thought richer mixture=easier starting?

float hight

Hi stu the float hight should be 0.060"-0.080", an over rich mixture is almost as bad as a weak one for poor starting, opening the throttle to allow extra air in, can weaken a rich mix to help starting.
