Need Help - Wiring Motogadget Turn Signals

Guys,

I am in the process of wiring some Motogadget M-Blaze Pin turn signals on my 2004 T100. I have disconnected the OEM units and installed the M-Blaze Pins, wiring them in accordance with the Triumph wiring diagramme in the Haynes manual. With the OEM flasher relay in situ all the turn signals stay on together without flashing. I was aware of a hyper-flash issue with OEM relays and LED turn signals, so I installed a CF13 GL02 relay, supposed to work with any LED or incandescent bulbs, and the turn signals now flash at the correct rate but all at once like hazard warning lights irrespective of switching left or right.

Link to relay https://www.squaredeals-ltd.co.uk/d...--new-spec-cf13-gl02-sku--t2500531-1961-p.asp

As the relay enables correct flash rate and M-Blaze turn signals are wired in accordance with Triumph wiring, I suspect a fix is necessary. Anyone out there with some technical advice who can help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

If wiring has been done correct then it is strange, I would try narrowing between front and rear ie disconnect both front and try rear, disconnect both rear and re connect front and try, does this point to front or back , oem lights only need supply ie 12v and is earthed by bodywork, pins need 0v, there are a lot of black cables in headlight bucket, you could run a temporary 0v from battery to prove you are on the correct 0v line

Hey that is completely normal, as I take it you haven't changed the indicators idiot light to LED, and that is causing current to go to both parts of the circuit as you don't have diodes installed to stop it.

The best thing you can do is reading Ripper's Indicator guide, it is an awesome resource for all problems with indicators, and describes exactly your problem. way better then I could in a post, he is an awesome contributor to this community and a wizard in the magic world of electricity.

P.S. You will love the M-Blaze Pins, I have them in one of my Bonnies and they are awesome

Interesting. I have the same m.blaze indicators on my 2014 Bonneville and though I did have to change the flasher relay to avoid hyperflash, I had no issue with both lighting up. Did Triumph change the idiot lights to LEDs at some point between 2004 and 2014?

In any case OP this does seem like a minor fix and a small price to pay for how much you'll love the m.blaze.

TILL_PT,

Thanks for signposting me to Ripper's turn signal guide. The guide is just awesome and hopefully soldering a couple of diodes in the dash light will remedy the problem.

Does anyone know the value of the diodes, or will any value suffice for this simple electrical circuit?

Not sure what the current is through that circuit but err on the side of higher rather than lower. You can pick up a half dozen 1N5406s for a few dollars. They're rated for 3A and 600V which I would think should be firmly on the safe side for this application.

No problem, All my knowledge on the matter comes from Ripper, So hes the one to thank on this 0:)

Thanks Ripper,

The detail you offers great and I will be looking at changing the idiot lights and speedo lights to LED's. I have yet wire up the hyper-flash mod and yet to decide which colour for the speedo, but your recommendation for the ice white is most likely. Many thanks, and I will keep all informed of progress.

Apologies for my tardiness! So, I eventually got round to wiring in the diodes into the wiring harness in accordance with Ripper's fact sheet. Once the dials are dismantled and the wires stripped back, it was quite a simple task with the soldering iron and some heat shrink. Guidance was absolutely bob-on - no random flashing at all, and the Motogadget M-Blaze Pin's look the nuts! Thanks for all the help and guidance to all who contributed.
