Bike Won't Start After New Mods

Apologies first off if anyone is seeing this twice, I x-posted in Reddit.

I just replaced the clutch cover on my '09 Bonnie after painting it flat black. It shifts fine. I filled the oil and went to start it, but the bike just clicked at me like it would if the battery were dead. I replaced the battery with a new one, charged it overnight with my battery tender, and in the morning tried again. It failed to start. My analog voltmeter shows, prior to starting, the needle in the middle of the green area (I'm assessing somewhere between 12.4 and 12.6v). When I attempted to start the bike, the needle oscillated wildly between the upper portion of the red zone (no idea what the actual voltage was here) and the middle of the green zone. It is accompanied by that same repeated clicking and flickering of lights. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's an excellent thread on EFI starting issues: https://www.triumphrat.net/air-coole...ont-start.html

I'm curious, how much good advice have you gotten from reddit for Bonneville repairs?

'02 Bonneville - AI removed, 152MJ's, 42's 1.5 turns out, Air Box Gone/Uni Filters, TPS removed/capped, NH Togas, Nology Coil, Hotwire plug wires, TTP SafeStart, TTP Firestarter, D9 Bracket, Pingel petcock, 19 tooth sprocket, Michelin Pilot Actives.

Have you made sure that the idler gear and its shaft and wavy washer were assembled properly? a jammed starter gear would produce a thunk sort of sound and massive current demand from a jammed starter motor.

I'll check out that thread. Thanks for pointing it out. I should have been better at searching the forum.

Asking Reddit isn't really different than asking here, right? We're all just faceless bits and bytes. The beauty thing about asking in communities and on forums is I can go back through the user's comments and see if they helped other people or just gave bum advice.

@Forchetto :

Yuppers! That's how it looks. I was wicked nervous about putting it back together so I checked and re-checked.

Funny thing happened, too, this weekend. My truck randomly died in spectacular fashion. Someone must be telling me to quit driving! HA
