cold starting the Bonneville

not sure if this is a problem or a feature of the Bonneville,

On my wife's 2014 Bonnie when starting from cold it often fails to turn over on the first press of the button, just partially turns the engine as if it can't overcome compression.

second (or occasionally third) press it fires up and runs fine all day long.

we were used to this on her old BMW 650 single and that was just where the engine stopped on the stroke stopping the decompresser valve kicking in on first press

could this be the same on the Bonnie?

odd thing is I've never had it on my 2013 Scramber

Common, if you are talking about the little semi spin then nothing when pressing the button. All input so far says it is low battery, to me that is impossible, mine has done this after full charge, from brand new 13. I cleaned the contacts etc. now i wait for the gauges to set themselves, dial goes right then settles at base 0 I press the button then, most times it starts. There is a supposed "fix" if you search, it is hard lining a resistor in the starter relay loom. Do a search, I remember Forchetto commented on it. I can't remember the link.

I guessed it would be a common 'issue' but no way is it battery related on this bike, like you we've had the bike from essentially brand new and it's always done it

No decompressor valve on the Bonnie. Several fixes on this beauty of a 37-page thread. I'll take you to the latest mod, rragos's diode mod:

This is another (mealy-mouthed and frigging useless) reply from Triumphs Faecesbook page concerning this type of starting problems:

Thanks I'm going to do that Radio Shack resister one where you cut into the wire with a splice and install the bit. You commented on it a while ago. Thanks as always.

For a second there I thought this was about pulling the "choke" knob out to the first click. Mine will at times do what has been described but if I pull the knob out it fires up every time.
