Compatible tach

I have a 2009 Bonneville. What years of Bonneville or Thruxton will have a tach that is compatible? Can I go as late as 2011 or do I run into the digital odo then? Can I go any earlier? I assume no, since the EFI and carb versions would be different, but what do I know. Thanks.

i have been reading about tach setups as well as i have a 2012 magged bonnie. reading other threads say you need an electronic tach, i would like same as stock size and ultimately a D-9 custom mount with the key up there. do not want to pay for the triumph kit and only use the tach!!! lots of options depending on $$$$ i will pay for what i want but do not want to be taken to the CLEANERS! $$$$ keep lookin + learning

TX, in the US, I believe some late 2010 Hinckleys were VDO-equipped, but most were not.
No numbers to back that up though, just noticing build trends in my own work. Anything
pre-2010 Thruxton or Bonneville should work. As far as buying used, gotta see the
instruments before you put your money down - obvious differences - pics to clarify...

VDO gauges...

Pre VDO gauges...

More differences... VDO tach on left, pre-VDO tach on right... Triumph got this part right... always
thought the pre-VDO instruments were unnecessarily bulky.

Compatible tach

Seth, thanks. That's what I needed to know. Am I correct that I can't use a carb version?

TX - not sure on that - the EFI speedo has the
two additional warning lamps built in, but not aware
of anything that would prevent any pre-VDO tach from
working... not a bad idea to cross reference part #'s from
different years though.

Hi D9, I was emailing you earlier - I have a 2013 Base, unless I misunderstood you it sounded like an OEM VDO tach is my only option?

Need to find out if Triumph has a new kit, the part # currently listed I don't *believe* is correct for my bike as all the photos are for the older setup with a different gauge face and needle style.

Icehawk - Triumph tach kit A9828007 should be the one that will
work on single speedo VDO Bonnevilles, but always check parts
numbers carefully... changes are not announced, we usually seem
to find out the hard way...
http://triumphinstructions.com/ProdDocs/A9828007-EN.pdf
The factory tach kit is the only practical option right now for VDO/CANBUS Hinckleys, and will
remain so unless or until someone comes up with some magical break out box for
allowing fitment of other aftermarket tachs...

I'll probably just take a chance on this 2007 tach. Both are pre-VDO so I'm hoping it works.

Ah, ok D9 that clears up my confusion then - didn't realize CANBUS affected this part. Thanks!

I guess I need to call around and find out from a dealer wether A9828007 has the correct face/needle for my bike or what. I think it is really weird how few photos Triumph provide of their bikes - every auto manu has inside & out 360 zoomable galleries - so I have no clue what a 2012 Base's speedo looks like. All the pics I've seen of Triumph's tach kit have a way different face than what I have.

Ok, just spoke with Pure Triumph and it does look like there is a new kit - she said it's not avail yet and there are no photos so she isn't 100% that it's matching to the 2013 setup or when it will be avail. She's put a call into Triumph for me and said we should hear back today. Will update!

In case anyone is interested, I called my dealer and they looked up part numbers. Some 2007 carbed bikes share the same part number with the 2009 EFI tachometers. Some do not. It depends on the engine number. I took a chance, so we'll see if I am lucky or not.
