Forchetto, thanks for al the help. I have attached a wiring diagram. It will be of great help if you point out brown and black wire at the regulator connector that you have mentioned. thanks in advance

It would be worth checking what the resistance of the meter is, and therefore the current draw - it might be sufficiently low that you can leave it permanently attached (depending on how often you use the bike).
