As mentioned in the What Did You Do To Your Twin Today thread, last weekend, did a few things including:
  • oil change
  • pipes polished (omitted pic of scraped knuckles when I got too vigorous and slammed into the cylinder fins)
  • new Progressive front springs installed
  • Got my "cockpit" set up with the GPS mount and GoPro mount
  • Dry fit/mock-up with the bags

Pics below. Tomorrow I have the new Michelin Pilot Activs mounted/balanced and since the wheels needed to be off anyway, I figured I'd save some of my time and do a duplicate wheel pull & have the pros also install these:
  • new rear 43T sprocket by Superlite
  • new front 19T sprocket by Superlite
  • * new DID VX525 chain

This completes my planned mechanical upgrades and if something breaks/fails during my trip, it will be VERY unexpected and not a typical wear item. Beyond the pro work, this weekend, I'm going to wash the bike (it will come back filthy enough - probably should start extra clean), and do a dress load/ride with my bags packed & loaded as if I were leaving. I also have secured my minimalist "maintenance" stuff for both humans and bike. I'm not going to be >100 miles from someplace so if I can't fix it with the tool roll, chain lube & cleaner (not pictured) or my band-aid box, it's time to call AAA or 911.

Are you sure that bike has been ridden? Its just to damn clean and shinny!
If you're ridding through Iowa stop by my place, you can spend the night and all you have to do is detail my bike, I dont think it has ever looked as clean as yours.

Actually I envy you, that looks like a nice trip you have planned and look forward to your report, dont forget pictures.

Thanks Doug - I am both reasonably obsessed with keeping it clean as well as lucky it gets full-time garage home. That and the pics show it after a cleaning - it's spring in N. Texas, or as I like to call it, "The Great Pollening" so right now even with just a few rides since those pics, it has a nice thin yellow powder over it all ...

Unfortunately, not making it all the way to Iowa - just as far north as Nashville. But, presuming this goes well, I'm going to make an annual trip like this and I've got an itch to go see friends in Chicago so Iowa is on the way.

The biggest factor in me getting to do this now is I'm done paying for the kid's college so I've had a bit more disposable income and to ensure this is documented like a news crew is following me, I got a new GoPro 7 Black and scored a barely used GoPro Session 5 from Craigslist plus my iPhone. I'll be shooting pics and video like it's a contest. I took a test ride with the GoPro last night and the new stabilization is amazing - https://gopro.com/v/pJPNlgeo3dP4B

Once I shove off, I'll create a new thread over in the Ride/Trip Report section for daily updates.

I lived in San Marcos(just south of Austin) for three and a half years and I learned all about the pollen season! Have the allergies to go with it now. That stuff clings/bonds to everything.

As I approach retirement my plan is to take a lot of three/four day rides/trips, I still have one son that will start college in the fall so I have to chase $$ for a while. I always look forward to the trip reports posted, it motivates me to get out there myself.

That GoPro is outstanding. Looks like you got a nice wheelie in there at the end. I hope we get to see video of you riding too.
