Riding a Thruxton Two-up

Hadn't anticipated the need for two-up riding on my 2013 Thruxton but want to encourage my wife. After a short ride she feels very unsecured. Like the look of the cowl, but recognizing it has to go, what are the best dual seat options? The stock seat slants backwards, cafe style. Not very reassuring for the pillion rider. Am considering seat replacement options plus perhaps adding a grab rail.

Best candidate I have found so far is the Mustang Classic seat, but pricey. Assuming I need a complete seat replacement, as a cover only options won't address the pillion rider sliding backwards. Had a King & Queen seat that was great on my previous touring bike, Yamaha XS750E, but don't have the heart (not in character) to install on a Cafe Thruxton. Rides will be relatively short - couple of hours max.

Options or suggestions anyone, to provide confidence for a pillion rider?

Under the cowl of my 2010 Thruxton is a reasonable level seat not massive but plenty large enough for my wife to sit on , I do have a rack with grab rail fitted as well though . Now the 2016 on Thruxton is completely different nothing to sit on under the cowl had to buy a new seat with pillion provision and pillion footrests . I think any seat that fits the early Bonnevilles will fit your Thruxton shouldn't take long to find something on ebay that will suit .

My Wife and Daughter are very spoiled, they would not ride on anything less than a full on king Queen seat as well as a large backrest.
Not that I blame them.. you couldn’t get me on the back of a bike, but if I was to be a passenger... I would expect the same!

Thanks Paddy399. Definitely a strong contender for the grab rail. Looks like they are doing good business. Just about sold out of everything. Left them my email to advise availability.

In meantime still looking for a two-up seat to be compatible in looks while providing more confidence and security for the pillion rider. Suggestions appreciated?

I have a K&Q seat that I've used infrequently, in excellent condition, that I'll sell if you want it.

Granted, it's ugly, but it's comfortable and you only have to use it when you ride with a pillion. That's the only time I ever used it, and I always swapped it out for my 99.9% solo riding.

Did you take the cowl off as the 2013 has a dual seat and I have done many long distant rides with my wife on the back of my 2013 Thruxton we regularly do 5 1/2 hour straight runs up to Agnes Water from Brisbane only stopping for fuel, she finds the rear seat to be comfortable for her we have a Triumph rack on the back with grab rail but she don't use it.

If you pick up an alternate Triumph seat make sure its for an EFI bike. I have both seat types and I have measured and compared the pan clearance between the two. There is a difference. The pre EFI seats do not have sufficient clearance for the electronics of an EFI bike and you can damage a plug.

Nobody would see anything when you were riding (you might have to sacrafice a cafe stop) , but if thats what made the wifey happy and it was not forever.:idea

I have not looked much past stock seats but they do get pricey for a temporary solution.

Thanks all, for your input. As a first step, I ordered a simple grab rail from ebay and waiting for arrival. Will see how well it works out in providing some added security, as well as how it looks. Went with black paint rather than chrome to match my understated black Thruxton with tail tidy.

Will share results after install!

Awesome, I almost pulled the trigger on that one too but then I saw this on the item page: "This seller is currently away, and is not processing orders at this time. You can add this item to your watch list to purchase later."

Did you get anything like that? Or is it processing and shipping as normal?

sfscrambler,

Mine is on the way. Scheduled to arrive Tuesday. May be other "deals" out there for this item on ebay. Most I have found are around $95 delivered! Keep checking in. Good luck.
