What tires for the off 18" on air cooled Thruxton??

Hello All -

Its been about 2 years since I replaced tires on my 2013 Thruxton, likely more, and I am in the market again.

The last time I replaced tires the Mich Pilot Road 4 had just come out however not with an 18" option so I reverted to the outgoing Mich Pilot Road 3...and coming from the Pilot Road 2 at the time I still considered this an upgrade.

The Pilot Road 4 has now been replaced with the Road 5 (no longer baring the Pilot moniker) and still no 18" option.

I am finding Pilot Road 3 still for sale however being so many years old already I am worried those are old stale tires.

This brings me to my current issue....what are you air cooled thruxton guys using now in the "radial" spectrum?

The metzler tourances on my new street scrambler are awesome and I intend to keep using those however for the thruxton, which I will now invest some cash into modifying a bit since its been relieved of its daily duties, I would like to keep it sporty i.e not cardboard bias ply tires.

Short of lacing up a custom 17" front rim which would open up all the options, what options do I have if I stay 18"?

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Nikko

This may be an option as well since Conti supplied the tires for the Thruxton cup. http://www.conti-bike.co.uk/contiroadattack-3/

That looks like a great option and in so many sizes! Thanks a lot, I will do some reading on these as well.

Better selection of radials this year for the Thruxton. Check-out the Dunlop Roadsmart III radials. Recently installed on my '14 Thruxton. Check-out my comments and pics of them.

Cheers.

Angel GT tires 150-70-17 and 110-80-18. Very pleased with this choice.

Here's my take after first installing the Angel GTs and going tubeless on my 2013 Thruxton....

https://www.triumphrat.net/air-coole...-part-1-a.html

Now have about 5,000 miles on them and still very happy. They are softer and more comfortable/compliant than some. Appreciated on Michigan's poor roads! Handling remains solid, with nice nimble easy turning. Some wear, but based on present state I think I should get at least 9,000 plus miles before replacing. Ridden mostly in the dry, warmer weather, but when caught in the unanticipated downpour no problems.

At the moment I really can't give you a reason to consider other options.

Ride safe, Thruxty.

2013 Thruxton: Hagon 2810, Ricor Intiminators; STS; AI & O2 removed; 2>1 baffle remove; airbox snorkel and restrictor removed; TTP; Tail Tidy; Eastern Beaver Relay; LED Indicators; Tubeless Rim Conversion; Pirelli Angel GTs 110/80-18, 150/70-17
