Here is my thinking sgnden,
I was faced with a similar dilemma and I chose the 1600. Here's why:
I love to upgrade my bike over the winter. Better pipes to increase performance, shocks ... and guess what? With the 1600 I can make a neat upgrade to 1700 next year! Something to look forward to.
Here's what I've found: Every time I've tried to purchase the 'perfect' bike (or house, or whatever) I've been disappointed. But what provides great, long term satisfaction is to buy a bike that you love and then make it your own over time.
Good luck - you can't go wrong either way!
What if there were no hypothetical questions?
