Hi Wallace, just changed my rear tyre for the first time today - the original Metz only did 8046 kms - pretty low by my estimates, but she's a heavy bike and I use her mostly 2-up and often loaded. I might have gotten another 500 I guess, but am gearing up for quite a long run next weekend and don't wanna get caught short.
I'm continuing with a Metz for now as we do a lot more damp riding here, and I value the stickability (and for that reason use Pirellis on my Bonnie); however, I took to using dual compound tyres riding in West Oz myself from 1996-2002 on my Trophy and then a Sprint ST, and though I was initially suss on the concept, the duals were excellent in Western Australian conditions: good mileage for not much concession in handling/grip. Anyway, looks like 8000 kms or so isn't that unusual for the factory rear - cheers, Pat
Oh, I think at least 40psi is the go for a tyre that size, despite what the owner's manual says...
