I guess one of the things that also appeals to me about the silver/gray over the black -- beyond the cleaning issues discussed here and the fact that there are so many black bikes on the road -- is that, if I can't have color (e.g. blue), I at least want some contrast in the overall appearance of the bike. The black paint matches the seat which matches the tire which matches the frame...and so on, broken up only by chrome. Having that silver/gray would give me that appearance of contrast that I really like (and get from true color).
As many have mentioned already, it's definitely a matter of opinion. I suspect there are many who like and prefer a more uniform appearance.
But in the end, every Thunderbird is a beautiful bike, regardless of color.
