What diagnostic tool allows you to reset the wrench without the stealership? Is there a diagnostic tool out there that will allow us to reset the maint wrench?

I had mine in for the recall (throttle tube deal) and asked to have them reset the wrench because I did the 500 mile service myself and they wanted a 1/2 hour shop rate which was $56 dollars. I was like f.....you I'll ride with the wrench for that price. Anyway, anyone have the answer please let me know.........

I agree. Even on far more complex and sophisticated cars there's a way of doing it. For example on my Mazda it's simply a matter of going to the "aplications" screen on the dash.

Other cars have some sort of procedure involving pressing the trip button and holding for a certain time or such like. No mysteries, it's on the owners handbook, like:

Reset method
Press and hold the TRIP button with the ignition switched off, then switch it on. Keep pressing the TRIP button for more than 5 seconds. The master warning light will flash for a few seconds when the reset is completed.

or:

1. Select the icon on the home screen to display the “Applications” screen. 2. Select “Maintenance” to display the maintenance list screen.
3. Switch the tab and select the setting item you want to change.

Triumph along with all of these companies are becoming evil money profiteering enterprises designed to separate you from your money at all cost.

This is why I will no longer buy new from any dealership. Buy used. You can also cut out the government tax abuse with sales tax by buying used. The whole thing is out of control.

At least triumph is using odb2 on their bikes. It is nice to be able to scan and clear codes on them with a cheap 50 dollar auto parts store scanner if you want. That or a odb2 cable for a computer that costs less than 20 bucks. Can't say that about a lot of other bike makers.

Hi BuddyB,

My T120 service is coming up. It is been 11 months and has 9.2k miles. I am sure after 10k the wrench icon will start flashing. I would like to know which tool did you buy. Also would like to know the USB hardware for it. Please provide the info. Much appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't speak for other countries, but if you are in the US you can do your own maintenance and service without voiding the warranty. Having said that, I recommend the following:

Follow the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations to the letter. Perform the maintenance on or before the date or mileage. I recommend that you do everything a bit early, so you do not exceed an interval.
  1. Keep a log of all the maintenance you do. A small notebook will suffice. Include dates, mileage, what was done, and what parts or materials were used. Be specific on part numbers, manufacturers, etc. This is particularly important with oil and filters.
  2. Save all the receipts for all the parts and materials you use: oil, filters, o-rings, gaskets, etc.
  3. Have a copy of the factory workshop manual or the manual pages applicable to the work you did. Since Triumph only offers the water-cooled twin workshop manual electronically, you will need to sign up and pay to download the pages you need. Make sure that you do this before you perform the maintenance; you do not want the record to show that you downloaded the pages after the fact.
  4. Save all receipts and work orders from maintenance done by dealers. It's also a good idea to enter this information in your logbook.
Here's the information from the US Federal Trade Commission:

My wrench turned on at 6k miles. Wasn't expecting that. I let the dealer do the 500 mile service and then changed my own oil at 5k miles. Everything is fine, except for the light.

It's just a mileage marker right? the wrench light isn't hooked up to sensors or anything that would indicate a problem with the engine? I'm guessing the dealer set it to 6k miles just to get me to come back.

I'm not going back.

No.

It is.

If you want to do the maintenance yourself, invest in DealerTool and use it to diagnose error codes.

Otherwise, you own a machine that has a complex computer controlled system that requires dealer servicing.

I agree that not being able to reset the wrench signal is about as stupid as making the clock so it only reads in the 24 hr format. My solution to the flashing wrench was fairly simple though. My dealer will gladly reset it free of charge if I just ask them to. Have you tried that with your dealer? I don't see why they wouldn't if they want your return business.

Is the warranty "yours"?

Answer: no, it is an agreement between you and Triumph. If you violate the terms of the agreement, they can deny your warranty claim.

These are not the older, air cooled bikes we are discussing here. These are all relatively new motorcycles, with warranties intact. Warranties that comprise a substantial percentage of the motorcycle's value. Warranties that when expired, or invalidated, substantially detract from the motorcycle's value (aka worth, i.e. money).

You're all free to do whatever you want, but it would be wise to play things by the books while your expensive new motorcycles are still under the original factory warranty. Can't see how anyone would argue otherwise.

It's simple. The service indicator is just that and nothing more. You can reset yourself with "Dealertool" software upto 10,000km / 6,000 miles (depends on which is selected)
If you have a warranty issue the fact that the service indicator is illuminated means nothing to the dealer. In UK/Ireland all you have to prove is that any service work was carried out by a competent individual using parts of similar quality to oem parts.

Both the solutions mentioned are not iOS compatible which is a real pain as every device I have is from Apple. I am planning on having Triumph do the first annual service next month then doing the work from there myself once the warranty has expired in a years time so I am hoping this iOS situation positively develops in that timeframe.

iOS is 12% and business runs on PC. Not much incentive.

The wrench icon does also come on if there's an engine or ECU tracked issue.
For instance, if I forget to turn off the ABS, when I run my bike on the dyno I get the wrench icon appear, as it's saying "ABS has just been is acting weird", even though I don't get a MIL error.
The wrench then turns off after a few meters on the road, so it seems to be a general "probably best take me to a dealer" icon rather than simply a service interval guide.

I would have gone the boot camp route but it's an iMac and two flights up. The tool was $100, the laptop from B&H Photo was $250. Over the life of the motorcycle this is a good investment.

My daughter has a much better laptop and copied the software to a flash drive which the cheapo has a slot for. Also, DR emailed me links to their software download.

So far the interface seems smooth.

First oil change is today.

Much like new cars, the sophistication and technology going into them is a double edge sword. All of the technology that has brought electronic fuel injection, riding modes, abs, traction control, and electronic cruise control etc. is making them difficult if not impossible to do DIY maintenance. For me, part of the motorcycle experience and enjoyment is being able to do the maintenance myself. I certainly don't like the fact that you can't get a service manual either and unless you purchase a dealer tool, you are forced to take you bike to the dealer. I'm almost tempted to go back to the air-cooled T100 ;)
