I'm not sure I'd class adding a free flow filter or decat as "pushing the envelope". Without measurements it's called "guessing"
I'm very keen to know the effects of a decat, as I'd happily do this simply to improve the sound, and for the fun of fiddling, but I'd like to avoid paying an extra AU$800 for a PCV5 and AutoTune.
So we have three camps here:
1. The people who decatted, and rave about them, reporting increases in power and responsiveness, but with no independent dyno results
2. The people who decatted, experienced issues, showed dyno results, and discussed their ways of working around this
3. The people who would like to decat, but due to the lack of data from (1) and worries from the only factual independent data (2) are asking what are usually quite sensible questions
Then there's always
4. The people who really want a decat and don't want to hear that there may be any issues. Completely understandable, but putting people down because they ask what effect compounding one logically risky change with another is not 'discussing' the matter.
Yeah, perhaps I'm overly cautious. Certainly not risk averse (I ride a bike every day), but prefer to know what I'm doing, rather than guessing. If you want to buy a decat and free-flow filter kit, go for it! I certainly won't without either some independent dyno results from several people, or a PCV. Two years in a dyno shop exposed me to all the crazy things people do to their bikes in pursuit of "pushing the envelope", so I won't hold any mods you try against you, but I certainly won't copy them unless they make sense
I bought some microcontroller kit and was looking into intercepting the airbox temp sensor to give a more accurate bias, increasing the fuelling by fooling the ECU in a slightly smarter way than simply adding a resistor. It appears relatively straightforward. I was waiting for my Actia OBD2 to be repaired first so I can use the Triumph diagnostic system to get the feedback from the sensors in real time, but I might see if I can get enough data from an ELM327.
Has anyone got a part number or a source for those little connectors that the airbox temp sensor uses?
