From day one when i picked up my Thuxton R oil was leaking from behind the right side inspection plate on the engine case. It has subsided a lot since but still the occasional drop will run out from behind it. Well yesterday I had the plate off to polish the engine case and there is indeed a 1/2" hole into the engine there. Just wondering if anyone else had that plate off and there was a plug or something in the hole that mine does not have.
I think you'll find that the hole does not go all the way through the alternator cover. Stick a piece of wire in there to verify this.
This "leak" has been reported a few times here, but only on brand new T120s and Thruxtons. I had it myself on my new T120. I removed the AGC cover, wiped off the oil, and there's been no more "leak" since.
The best guesses I've seen say that the oil is preservative left over from either assembly or shipping.
When I changed my ACG cover to one of the cool looking accessories one that Triumph offered, there was/is indeed a 2 centimeter'ish hole behind it, with NO plug.
I took delivery on my bike at the end of April, and never had that slight leak from where that was reported earlier.
From what I gather, that is totally normal to "weep" from there when the bike is brand new. As it is supposed to be some sort of grease used during the assembly process... I suppose, ideally, the technician is supposed to wipe & clean it off after his/her initial inspection ride. Assuming that's when the grease weeps out.
For what it's worth, mine has never, and has yet to, weep from there since I've owned it. The technician did put a little over 4 miles on it before I got there though, so it's possible it was wiped & cleaned then. Who knows.
Ps... Even that parts diagram link that was provided above, shows there is no plug in said hole.
My buddy had the same very slight oil leak on his T120 but I didn't on my T120. We both pulled our covers off and they looked identical inside. His crankcase oil level was at the middle of the window and mine was slighly higher so we are pretty sure that it wasn't that his bike was overfilled with oil. After a few days his stopped so we agree it is probably assembly oil.
