Trading wheels possible?

While the spoked wheels on my new Thruxton R look sharp, I don't love the maintenance to keep them pretty (and the tubed tires). Would it be reasonably possible to swap them for, say, the Street Triple's mag wheels?

The Street Triple R uses a similar front brake, so possibly, if you are very lucky. Rear wheel tire and rim sizes are different, so who knows..., or whether the offsets and axle sizes are similar. Those alloys don't look particularly "retro". No clue whether any other Triumph besides your bike and the Street Triple R use a Brembo Monobloc.

Ask your dealer since you already know CPR. :D Hate to think of the cost...

Trust you didn't buy the wrong bike...

Perhaps they don't but the the Street Twin looks decidedly retro and its mag wheels do not detract from that look one bit in my view - go ahead look at one - personally I think the Street Twins are the best looking of the new Bonnevilles - just not enough features or I'd have saved a lot of money.

For Dulcenea's question... Yes. Certainly. There are shops that really enjoy taking on such a project. Might not be a straight across swap, but anything imaginable can be done - just look at pictures of the bikes that were on display at Austin's Handbuilt Motorcycle Show, or Portland's The One Show.

I spent $75 getting a flat repaired just a few days ago (new tube, dismount/mount) that could have been plugged were I on tubeless.

Personally, I'm confident I bought the right bike - love so many things about it. But it's not all upsides...

I was waiting for a "wheels" thread to show up here. Soon after getting a flat rear tire on one of my first rides with my new 08' T-100, I upgrade to the Alpina tubeless spoked design. They've been awesome for 5 years and I think it was the best decision for me.

But I never stopped dreaming about putting some serious Forged (or carbon fiber) wheels, in the stock sizes, on my Bonnie. Alas, no one has come out with a nice, understated set of 19" front and 17" rear wheels that are bolt-ons for the air cooled twins. And I decided it would be too much work to change geometry and try to force on a 17" set of wheels which I think would not look at all good on my bike.

If I were in charge of a wheel manufacturing company I would immediately come out with a nice set of forged wheels that look appropriate on the new liquid cooled bikes. I think these would be popular items. Of course the forged have so many advantages over the spokes (not withstanding your opinion of looks) that I think there would be demand for this option. How good would a set of 5 spoke Marchesini wheels look on the new Thruxton R? Maybe in black or gold? I think they would look excellent and not detract from the overall theme of the bike.

That was a long winded way of saying..."subscribed". :>

Even straight spoke Marchesini's still look too "rad" IMO. They also bend since they don't absorb the roads shock spoked-wheels can. Careful when you re-engineer something which already works. Lighter sure, but Thruxton R rims are already alloy IIRC.

The "style" of this bike still isn't racy enough for period Campy's either..., from a gent who's owned a few. ;)

I put street triple r wheels on my Bonnie, rear has to be mounted the wrong way round as sprocket is on other side, worked out well I think, not dangerous :smile2: bike handles & stops better, of course lightweight chromemoly frame & radial brembos helped on that bike too.
Wheels are another thing I will be changing on the 'R' too, brought the right bike BUT always like to make them mine.

only problem with new models!! it takes time for the aftermarket as well as dealers to get upgrades. a set of lightweight alum or carbon fiber, if you have deep pockets would rock!!!! being quite sporty the Thrux R should get wheel options sooner than plain jane Bonnies
