getting close to Tilly's first servicing at 500miles, called the dealer to make an appt. and they told me it would cost $240, REALLY! The first service for a car is free.

her first service will also be her last service with Pandora Motorcycles

Mine was about $170 if I recall correctly.

I call it warranty insurance. Which is great, since my Street Twin has been in the shop 3 times for warranty work. Paying for that first service is worth it to me, even at the price they quoted you.

Yes, same here, labour free, oil & filter £36. Mind you have to watch them, techie will use semi & robbing front desk charge for full syn. I rec'n semi is good at 500, I then replace with full syn at 1000 -1500 when fully run in, just all imho each to their own thoughts on that.

Hmmm, you paid 12k + for a bike. I can assure $240.00 is just the first of many $$$ you'll spend on her.
You could have negotiated the first service into the original deal with the sales rep, I doubt they would let that be a deal killer.

Or as others mentioned just do it yourself and document everything

Yeah... I paid for my first service. Just for peace of mind. Then got the DealerTool app and cable to be able to do all this myself going forward.

Unless you negotiate the first service as part of the deal when you bought the bike, in the USA at least, you will have to pay for it if you have the dealer do it.

I negotiated my 500 mile check-up oil change when buying the bike.... it still ended up costing me a bit over $200.00 usd.
I think it's a total ripoff and I was told, in so many words, the first 500 mile inspection was mandatory for continuous coverage of my new bike warranty.
Sales says it's clearly written in the owner's manual.... !??
Anyhow, that will be the last time my bike goes in for any "mandatory" dealer inspections for warranty coverage BS.

Yep... that argument was BS... but I can tell you that I watched everything that was done to the bike... and they do (at least my dealer) go over everything. Checked the balance of the throttles, balanced them, oil change with synthetic oil, etc. It was great being able to see and ask questions. But my dealer never gave me that sales pitch...

Correct-amundo! Anyone negotiating a new purchase (now that WE forum members know what's up) should bargain on this first service at around the 500 mile mark. Dealer where I purchased my Thrux Std has quoted the following at first service interval:
1.Oil and filter change
2.Front and rear axel check, re-torque if requuired
3.Adjust chain for any stretch
4.Inspect radiator, inspect, top-off
5.Tire inspection ( ? )
6.Electronics update (this is over my pay grade)

That's all I can remember from the phone conversation, for this they're intending to charge $300. I have full faith and confidence in this dealer,SO I might be able to talk myself into thinking this is worth it. Any comments are most welcome as I haven't gotten around to doing this first service. The bike runs so well, it seems redundant to mess with it, but I KNOW I gotta do it.

Plugging in a computer and pressing send is the easiest thing to do of the above mentioned. What's listed should take an hour being extremely generous. Oil/filter are about ~$80.
It's a traditional gimme gifted from MC mfgs to dealers. No other new gas powered engine requires such dealer provided "break in" service. It's a tip.

I did my own oil & filter change and still paid $160USD. They did the cursory checks of this and that, reset the "Wrench", and gave me a print out of it all. At least it's all documented with Triumph should an issue arise.

One note: I had mentioned the intermittent brake groan I had and was told they cleaned off my rotors and if the noise came back, they were authorized to replace the rotors & pads under warranty. I didn't think to ask if the replacement rotors and/or pads were of a different design. Anyway Triumph knows about the brake noise.

I use an independent for servicing my Ducati since I've moved from the dealer I bought from and used for service BUT they are unable to reset the maintenance light on my Multi so I took it back to my dealer while I was in the area and it was somewhere around $60 or so just to reset the service interval counter...granted it would've been included had they done the service for around $150. FWIW, a first service at a Harley dealer is over $400 if you put synthetic oil in.

the first service price out the door was $288, from what it sounds like here, that's not too bad, and it's all under warranty, i forgot to ask them about the brake noise issue, if it keeps up, i'll call 'em back, and ride her in

now, time too ride her....
