Furthest distance to your dealer ?

My local dealer (30 min.) gave up the Triumph franchise and now the only dealer in the state is 4 1/2 hrs. away. I've owned 6 Triumphs and am now lusting after the new Street Scrambler. But that's a long ride for service.

So what is the furthest you would ride to your dealer ? Talk me into or out of this crazy idea.

It's not so much the drive, but the issue once you get there. What happens if the bike needs a part or something that is not in stock. Pack it up and try again later? No thanks.

On the upside, there isn't much service to do, but there is a little electronic wrench that will irritate you if you don't buy some gizmo to turn it off. Basically nothing that can't be done easily at home until the bike hits 20k miles.

They're great bikes. I have a trailer and no schedule, so it probably wouldn't disuade me. If I didn't, I'd settle for something else.

Would not be so bad if they were willing to send you the parts it will need for any warranty work to do yourself. I'm currently sending pictures to my dealer to identify what needs doing so they have them ready in stock. Still adamant that I must make the four hour round trip and wait to have them fitted though.
What worries me is if they get stuck for parts or time and I'm suddenly looking for alternative transport or a hotel.
All the work I'm sure does not need doing but you wonder how saleable your bike will be if none of the recalls have been attended to when the warranty is up.
And they keep booking me appointments for 8:30 in the morning. They just don't think.

For me (I still work) I'd be looking at another brand close to home.
When I moved to my current location, it was very difficult to justify driving 2hours one way, drop off bike for service and return the following Saturday for pick up.
I loved my Ducati and would still own it if I had a local dealer I trusted.

I'd find a local mechanic if you want someone else doing the minor work. Any recalls would wait until out of the riding season when I could haul the bike down there. Secondly you may want to check with other dealers in the area to see if they are interested in picking up a Triumph dealership. If they are, that may solve your problem.

My nearest dealer is 350km plus a 2hr ferry ride away so it's always a two night trip...the fact that I have to spend two nights in Phuket on top of a nice ride down and back is a plus LOL

My nearest Triumph dealer went from about 15 minutes from work to about an hour.
The old dealer said Triumph was putting new demands on showroom size / style that would cost too much to accommodate. I will take it to the old dealer unless it is warranty work.
