looks like it is the outside portion of the cap which rotates free after locking the cap that is making the sound

here is a link to a video, the cap rattles when going over speed bumps.

https://streamable.com/atac9

another one where i am rattling the **** of the fuel cap

https://streamable.com/h6tod

@STwin Runner i was thinking of getting a discrete rubber collar for the gas tank but since its the top part of the fuel cap that is rattling that idea is down the drain.

That second video clearly shows it. I will have to check to see if mine does the same.

PS - you can take the warning stickers off now

Ride to your dealer and check a few of the same models they have sitting in the showroom. If you can't reproduce the same looseness on one of the bikes on the floor tell them you want them to order you a new cap under warranty. Better yet ask them if you can put one of the tight fitting caps on your tank to see if the up/down motion disappears.

Is the rubber seal under that gas cap? Can't say I've ever noticed a gas cap do that before. If I did have a loose one, the loud pipes drown it out.

You got a warranty, take it back and have them give you another gas cap.

Had the same problem on my T120. Dealer warrantied a new cap and it didn't make a difference. They then disassembled it and shimmed it and the rattle was gone.

seems like the way to go, rather than getting a new cap which will also most likely have the same issue unless triumph QC has suddenly woken up in 2017.

had i figured this out earlier, it would have saved me the trouble of becoming known as the guy who always wanted the front end of this bike checked.

Is this a quality control issue if the caps are all the same and otherwise beautifully made?

Mine also spins when it's locked. It probably rattles a little, too, but I haven't noticed. It's no big deal.

I'm pleased that the cap otherwise works so well and has a much lower profile than OEM locking caps that were sold for the air cooled bikes. It's also great that the cover can be opened and closed without marring the chrome.

I doubt it. Before mine was fixed, there was an appreciable difference in movement between mine and the ones on the showroom floor. Both spin but mine spun with zero resistance.
