Has anyone else had issues with using the helmet lock that's under the seat?

I'd love to use it instead of a helmet lock, but based on where the latch is on the bike, my helmet doesn't have enough room on the strap to work.

I wouldn't say I've had issues. But the helmet lock is a bit fiddly for sure. I have more issues getting the seat to latch back down when I'm done latching the helmet.

My helmet, a Bell Qualifier DLX, fits well enough, but it feels like a bit of a stretch to reach it to the latch the way the helmet sits against the bike.

My old V65 Magna had some kind of pin right on the seat lock. (Not quite remembering the exact design, now. 'Twas many moons ago.) No seat removal required.

I was just thinking of getting a couple of those metal T extension things.

EDIT: Found a pic. This lock unlocked both the seat and helmet loop, but removing the seat was not required.

Looks like there may be a few universal add-on helmet locks available, if desired.

I tried using it on my Shoei NeoTech and there's no way it will work.

It seems to me nobody at Triumph actually tried this out. In general I've found most Euro bikes have either no helmet lock or one that's a complete joke while almost all Japanese bikes have one that works pretty well. It must be a cultural thing like few people in Europe lock their helmets to their bikes or ???

I'm not bashing Euro bikes, I've got nothing but Euro bikes in the garage, but NONE of them have a decent helmet lock, Triumph, Guzzi, Ducati, none. My old airhead BMW had a decent helmet lock that was designed like the one on my T120 but it actually worked.

I've resorted to using a pad lock on my tail rack instead.

The same padlock works on my Speed Triple & Husky 650 through a passenger peg loop, also but not the Ducati.

After reading this thread and finding that my Aria helmet would not fit on the under seat helmet lock; I decided to get the 5 digit cable bike lock pictured below.

The Bully helmet lock extender arrived today, so time to try it out.
The verdict: It might work great for others, but does not on my T120.

Here's the extender on the under-seat hook. Looks to be pretty much a perfect fit.

With helmet.
As you can see, I have the Triumph bag racks installed, which put the helmet too much straight out from the hook.

In this view, you can see that the seat is as far down as it can go without damage, but it's nowhere near latching.

Without the helmet and with the seat latched, the Bully must bend around to almost straight down.

Here's the bend required for it to fit under the latched seat.

If you don't have the side racks, this may work perfectly for you. Clearly, you would need to run it through the D-rings opposite the way I had it in the photos.

I have a keyed frame-mounted lock on order that I hope will be my solution.

Will fill you in either way.

Found the built-in 'helmet lock' on my Street Twin pretty much unusable - don't want to take my seat off just to secure my helmet. So bought this from A&J (link below): a little pricey, but great quality. Easy to fit and use - clicks into locking position without needing the key......
...a nice helmet lock for sure....but not usable if you have saddlebags or hard luggage.... :frown2:

I just use a length of bulk throttle cable with a loop crimped on each end. Loop it through the D-rings and back to the under seat lock tab. Aircraft cable would work too.

I ordered these two today...(the one with the lock was mentioned earlier) the key lock one for my daughters helmet and the other one for my Neotech ii (it is similar to another one shown, but is thinner so it can slide through the clamp down on the helmet strap). I was starting to get worried how I was going to fasten that to my bike without the D ring...

Still not sure about leaving it on the bike for too long at a time (got the Sena SRL BT too...). Will maybe slide the cover over to hide it a little.

I feel you, bro. My two main helmets are a Bell Bullitt Carbon and a Neotec II with SRL BT and I'm not real keen on leaving either one locked on the bike. Add my Roland Sands Ronin jacket to the mix and it's just about all I can think about while they're out in a parking lot.

What I've been using is an Abus Phantom 8960 cable lock. The one I have is the 110cm version (43") which is long enough to go through both sleeves of a jacket, through a helmet, and through the motorcycle's frame with enough slack to keep the helmet on the seat under the jacket. Another nice thing about it is it can be uncoiled straight and it's just stiff enough to facilitate pushing the cable through sleeves. I looked at a LOT of cables and chains before I bought it and it is the best by far.

That said, what I try to do is wear my Bell Riot Helmet when I know I'll be leaving it in a parking lot. It's inexpensive enough that it won't kill me if it disappears. Also, it and my Neotec II are plain white because both Revzilla and Cycle Gear say it's the least popular color. That, and I live in Southern California and I don't see much sense in wearing a solar oven on my head. :wink2:
