V&H high level exhaust for Street Twin

This seems to be the only option for a de-cat exhaust currently available for the WC line. I am not really crazy about a Scrambler style exhaust, but I was wondering what kind of HP/torque gains would one expect from such a system and the Triumph re-tune? I don't know of any real numbers out there, so I am just asking for guesses based on past experience, knowledge of such things, etc.

I am guessing that the V&H 2-into-1 high-mount exhaust system for the 2016 Street Twin still has a cat... I am thinking it still has an internal cat in that portion of it where the two pipes come together, in that fatter portion of the tubing before the exhaust goes into the 'reverse cone' tip portion... I'm only guessing this because I have yet to read anywhere that it is actually a 'de-cat' system, or for 'off-road' use only... Therefore also negating the need for an addition ECU tune.
... Of course I could be completely wrong... But that's what I gather, reading between the lines. Cheers.

I believe it is 'off road' IIRC or maybe I am wrong, but if you read the instructions for it, it requires a re-tune. You may be right though, I don't know much about it.

The correct engine calibration must be
downloaded to the motorcycle ECU prior to
starting the engine. This information can be
found on the 'Triumph On Line' dealer web site

That's the first time I've read/seen the Triumph PDF for that kit... I read it... And it tells me that you are correct... De-cat, and new ECU calibration to accompany it... That looks like a nice kit.

Also, that just tells me that these so-called aftermarket reputable exhaust manufactures are slacking a little... By just putting out the slip-on systems, that barely change the sound (except for the Remus t120 kit), and save a little weight, or look a little better.

This tune is out there for them to design something creative & nice... And nothing. (For the Street Twin at least.) The bike has been out to the public since F'n February!#Weak

Just went back and checked, it is off road only. Out of curiosity I checked the instructions for the V&H slip on's and it only says the same procedure for the stock slip on's so no re-tune (I was curious if my bike would benefit with a tune for my BC slip on's...that question answered at least). So I am guessing there is no CAT in the high mounted version. Just a guess though.

ETA: posted before I saw your reply. Yea, we are still waiting for the aftermarket to catch up. I really want a 2-1 tracker style unit. The tune is there as you say, for the ST at least...just need someone to step up lol.

Well, according to what a knowledgable Triumph NA told me in person, the De-CAT system for the Thruxton R (mind you, with a newer CAM as well, but I think the CAM's primary purpose it to change the tourque & hp peak higher in the RPM range. Not add much hp) give the bike 15hp more when measured at the crank... So, somewhere between 5 & 10hp would be a very logical guess.

Also, I bet that CAT is even heavier than you think, once you pull it off and hold it in your hands. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the CAT + stock exhaust cans where at least 15lbs heavier than any new system anyone would make or buy.

Therefore, I plan on just saving some $, and waiting for something nice looking & de-cat to come out. So I'll just keep my dumb stock metric-tons on there till like 2019, if/when something 'worth' it comes out by then, hopefully.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking as well....~7-10HP/torque gain. May need some type of airbox mod to really get there. Some of the slip on's are reporting a 2HP gain so who knows. I did email Triumph about it but I don't expect a straight answer lol.

Yea the stock units weigh a ton, I didn't realize just how much until I took them off and held them. You could weight lift with them lol.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....People really need to stop expecting Triumph to do factory tunes that are going to gain you any more power from any of these bikes. It aint gonna happen, their hands are tied legally.
To make more power they would need to use more fuel and in doing so they will not be able to meet the emissions requirements, if they did they would be braking the law.
Harley Davidson have just had their arses slapped to the tune of $12 million for doing exactly that (see link to article below)
They have been selling there own version of a tuner for years and it has been ruled that in the USA they have been breaking the law in doing so...Other manufacturers Triumph included are not going to want to be dragged into this sh*t-storm along with HD and Volkswagen..Harley have tried to use the "off road only" thing and it aint working no more..

When Triumph release a "tune" it is only ever going to iron out a couple of wrinkles with any exhaust system or silencers they sell but it will STAY within emissions legislation..So virtually no power gains!!
The only way any more power is going to be gained from these bikes will be to use an after market tuner (Power Commander etc) or to crack the ECU to replace the factory tune with another power orientated tune..
And to be honest I think that the next thing on the list for governments is to try and crack down on companies like Dynojet and make the sale of tuners like Power Commander illegal, my advise would be to decide sooner rather than later whether to buy one or not, because I have a sneaking suspicion that they are going to disappear in the not to distant future...
The next thing we are going to see is a yearly inspection like we have over here in the UK for cars where the exhaust gasses are checked for emissions, when this is made mandatory on motorcycles it will be a game changer......

Big Brother is not just watching you, he's about to kick you in the nuts!...and spoil all your fun..

I've already decided this will be the last new bike I buy (not that I've been fortunate enough to be able to buy many new bikes) because half the fun for me is dicking around with them and making them better than they were from the factory....Sadly, it looks like that side of things is about to change.......

Well Triumph responded to my inquiry. They say to expect a 3-5 HP increase over stock with this system and the appropriate tune. That sounds a tad conservative to me, but if that is true, I don't think it is worth the $1500 price tag unless one is just crazy about the looks and weight savings. They made sure to say it was for off road use only.

Sounds plausible. On "new" air/oil-cooled Monsters, a DP race ECU, Termignoni slip-ons and air filter, the claimed increase was also 3 - 5 BHP. MSRP was ~ $1,650-. They fuel cleaner on the low end though.

Yea, I was hoping for a tad more but I imagine it does noticeably improve the performance and responsiveness though the whole power band and then there is the weight savings. I don't really like the idea of loosing my passenger capability though....not that I have a passenger very often. My GF doesn't like to ride, but the next one might lol.>:)
