My Street Twin, slowly doing little mods here and there...

Looking to pull apart the headlight and gauge this weekend and black everything out up front and I plan on testing out that yellow tint on the headlight as well. I'll post updated photos once I've got all that done.

So far I've done the brown bench seat, had a local fabricator clean up the rear end, updated indicators, new handlebars, CRG bar end mirror on the left, Biltwell Thruster grips, looking to get that reservoir handled in the near future and have a sissy bar headed my way this week from DanKai.

They were removed with an air compressor, had to swap out the bars completely though to get the bar end mirror and grips to work, the stock bars are all kinds of strange on the ST. I wanted to get rid of those silver end caps as well.

I initially purchased the chocolate grips to go on my SR400, but I stopped doing mods on that once I had my heart set on getting a ST. haha

I'll have to snap a picture of them when I get home but basically those silver ends attach to a metal part that sticks out beyond the grips which seems to be where most of the bar end mirrors are mounting to. There's also the holes that hold some of the controls in place as well.

So did DanKai confirm that their sissy bars will mount to 2016 Triumphs? Do you know if it's only the Street Twin and only certain styles of their sissy bars?

I sent them photos of my T120s rear after inquiring about compatibility. I've never heard back since the first couple of exchanges a few months ago.

They've been using my Street Twin to get the dimensions. Mine will be the first ST sissy, I think they'll start producing them after this. I'm not sure about the T120 though, do they have the same frame as the ST? When I see Dan this week I can ask him about it.

It's been a couple months in the making so I'm pretty anxious to get it on there already.

In regards to the sissy bar for the T120, Dan says it's the same frame as the ST, he ought to be adding them to their website in June for pre-order. Love my bar, it's perfect and I can't wait to get stuff loaded onto it already and head out.

I tinted the headlight this weekend. Initially I purchased some JDM stuff from Amazon, it was horrible and I'm pretty sure I lost the finger prints on my thumbs. I wound up finding this Lumin-x stuff and it was like night and day, seriously only took me a few minutes to install. I do have to recommend that you don't get the universal bit from Amazon though, it's too small. I had to do mine in 2 pieces so I'll likely just buy another larger piece and re-do it, but overall I'm really happy with the outcome.

Painted the headlight bezel and the gauge bit and removed the passenger strap from the seat. Love seeing how my bike is slowly changing. I should have my fly screen here in the next few days also.

Next? That damn reservoir.

Looks good!
A sissy bar may be in my future
I painted my bezels too, I really like the yellow tinted headlight, I wonder if there is a law about that?
I found a triumph dealer who stocks different Triumph tank badges, I'm going to try some fits to see if I can mount a badge over the painted Triumph tank logo.

Funny how modding works. I never did any on my T100, other than to add an OEM center stand and low grab bar. People mod bikes, I think, largely in an effort to make their bikes stand apart from the crowd. Today, my T100 really stands out from others that I see because it's stock.

This is merely my opinion about the ST sissybar as constructive, not negative, feedback. It might well be the prototype rather than the production model.

It's too tall, too wide and too straight (might even be leaning a bit forward) for the ST which is a lean, lithe and narrow motorcycle.

Would suggest a shorter and narrower version leaning slightly back with top 25% bent backwards at an angle. FYI YMMV FWIW

I think that for some people, mods are a long, slippery slope. I've seen guys mod the utility, function, and reliability clear out of a bike by not understanding the relationship of the bike's systems to the parts added or removed. Or, by using parts and assemblies that were never engineered or tested for use with their particular bike through a wide range of speeds and weights. Lacking basic mechanical skills doesn't help, either.

An example that comes to mind is putting big, fat tires on the original rims, causing the loss of the bike's original handling and stability. I saw one lad do this, and now his side stand was useless because the bike leaned over too far. He didn't think of that.

Or, by putting a high-draw electrical device on a bike with a small alternator and battery set-up. Screwing this relationship up can be as simple as installing a high wattage halogen headlight bulb. The electrical system can't keep up with the demand, and those little wires overheat something fierce.

Another consideration is that today's bikes have on-board computers that monitor the presence and status of virtually EVERYTHING. For instance, it's starting to look as though I might not even be able to replace the incandescent bulbs in my new T120's turn signals with the long lasting, maintenance free OEM LED assemblies that Triumph uses in markets other than the US and Canada. The ECU may not allow this simple swap without the installation of software that I don't have access to, and neither does my dealer. This remains an open question that I don't yet have the answer to.

Oh I agree with all of that. It's important that my bike looks how I want as long as it's still completely functional for me. I'm not about to dive into a complex system and mess up my bike. I plan on having it for many years. Hell, even just changing out the indicators my bike threw a little fit. I'll just stick to the cosmetic stuff.
