Cheap penetrating fluid
Looking for a cheap alternative for penetrating fluid, try using a 50-50 mix of acetone and ATF (automatic trans fluid). Keep it away from plastics. Use a metal can to store it, similar to a plunger type oil can or a oil can like your grandpa used to use (push-in bottom).
Need a loosener for threaded bolts and nuts, warm it up first with heat, then press a white paraffin wax candle to the bolt. Liquid paraffin wax acts just like squirrel piss and will run down the threads because of low viscosity.

Cheers alittle1.
I think you mentioned your patent fluid before and I gave it a go. Excellent results, I now have a bottle handy in the workshop. Thanks.

A friend of mine sent me this email to update me on what he had found out about my concoction, gives you a better idea, now.
Penetrating Oils Machinist's Workshop Mag recently published some information on various penetrating oils. The magazine reports they tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts.
They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
*Penetrating oils ........... Average torque load to loosen*
No Oil used .................. 516 pounds
WD-40 ..................... ....238 pounds
PB Blaster ................... 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ...............127 pounds
Kano Kroil .................... 106 pounds
ATF* - Acetone mix..........53 pounds
The ATF-Acetone mix is a "mix-your-own-brew" -- 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test.
Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is almost as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.
Steve from Godwin-Singer says that ATF-Acetone mix is best, but you can also use ATF and lacquer thinner in a 50-50 mix.
*ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid

I like Ed's Red:
Equal Parts of: ATF, Acetone, Mineral Spirits, and Kerosene.
I've substituted Tiki Torch Citronella for the Kero on ocassion and also used "hot" type laquer thinner for acetone on ocassion. (Note: "hot" describes a laquer thinner you would use on a very cold day). All dangerous stuff...use care and common sense.

Probably, if you store it in a frying pan. I believe the original post says to store it in a metal can as it would probably diminish somewhat in a plastic type container. NOTE: Acetone is sold in metal containers and shelf life is pretty good, at least at my Home Depot.
