question: in 1970, should the serial number on the frame be stamped over embossed Triumph logos (same as the engine)?

I was looking at a matching # TR6R frame and engine & the raised area where the numbers are stamped did not have the embossed logos. the engine stamp was fine and the actual stamping on the frame looked legit, but no logos. the frame was indeed a 1970 (has the removable motor mount).

thanks. just out of curiosity, what month was your bike made? i wonder if it's only earlier models that don't have the logos. people have told me that it should and i have seen '70 models that do.

I don't recall ever seeing the logo on the frames. I suppose it's possible.

Mine is first production month. August 69

well guys

Just checked my stuff I got a 70 TR6R for restoration VIN AD 397** the engine is stamped with the logos. The frame doesnt appear to be. As its packed away in the garage I can only get so close.
My 70 T120RT VIN BD 419** both engine and frame have TRIUMPH logos stamped on the pads. I have a '70 T120R frame only in the backyard VIN ED 51*** the pad is stamped with Logos. I have a few other '70 frames and baskets round but cant get to them due to locations & weather conditions.
Soooo I reckon the change took place in the Jan/Feb '70 time frame.

My 70 T120R is XD347**, matching numbers with no logos on frame. It also has the original export sticker on the frame that says it was built in 12/69. I wonder if this is a 70 model built in December of 69 or built in December of 70 with the wrong export sticker.

It definitely has the 70 frame but I wonder if it might have a 69 engine. I guess that explains why the Owner's Manual the PO gave me was for a 69.

After re-reading this thread I see I missed that August was the first production month making mine a mid-production year 70. From what I have learned about Triumph using up parts from previous production years I was kind of hoping my engine may have been a 69. Looks like mine is an all 70.
