Steering head bearings questions

I have done a search of the tech threads and can't find any info or have missed it, so if it is already posted just direct me how to get to it.

I am putting together a custom job (old school chopper). Rigid frame, 1971 - TR6 motor, and it came with a 70's Triumph front end. The front end already had the tapered bearing conversion done, but I want to put a Springer front end on the bike. The springer (bought used) has a 1" shaft (no bearing came with it). The top bearing (dust cover and bearing as one unit) appears that it will work with the shaft, but I don't know what bearing to use for the bottom. The bottom bearing on the triumph stem was pressed on and cant be used on the springer as far as I can tell.

I am not a super mech, but I can turn a wrench pretty well. I just love to do my own work so I really feel like it is my ride.

All and any helpful advice will be appreaciated.
:confused

A "conversion" was NOT done. 1971 came with tapered rollers as did all OIFs.

You need to take your bearings to a good bearing shop. Have them match the inner diameter to the new fork and outer diameter to the existing bearing and come up with new bearings.

If you want to build your own bikes then you're supposed to know stuff like this. This information is "basic" to the craft. Didn't they explain this on the West Coast Chopper TV show ??

The green smiley is supposed to make you disregard any apparent attitude.

I hate emoticons.
